X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has threatened to sue a group of independent researchers whose research documented an increase in hate speech on the site since it was purchased (apnews.com)

Twitter is threatening legal action against the Center for Countering Digital Hate, a nonprofit that researches hate speech and content moderation on social media platforms....

Why isn’t US Government picking it up? Are they stupid?

TheBat,
@TheBat@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah that’s the thing about humans. They tend to create ingroups and outgroups.

TIL during the early days of the internet, companies tried to prohibit linking to some of their sites. The linked site linked to all of them during half of 2002 (web.archive.org)

In one of the even more absurd cases: According to an AP report (cited in Slashdot), Intentia International has filed criminal charges against Reuters PLC, alleging that the news service illegally obtained an earnings report that the company had not yet released, by guessing the URL at which it had been posted on Intentia's...

How would unions for VFX artists even work when lot of stuff is outsourced and those studios are in cutthroat bidding competition?

TheBat,
@TheBat@lemmy.world avatar

It’s much simpler than that. CG gruntwork (rotoscoping etc) is outsourced to studios in other countries filled with exploited artists. I doubt even those studios would have list of people and who worked on what. Generally names of project manager/team leads are given in such cases.

I doubt DNEG told Universal and Nolan to take the names from their website.

What’s your point?

Do people just not use the YouTube subscription feed?

I consistently hear people on YouTube complain that the subscribe button doesn’t do anything for viewers, now that channel notifications are controlled by the bell. But it does do something: it puts the videos from that channel in your subscription feed, which is readily accessible on all versions of YouTube. So why do people...
