TheOakTree,

I used to bring up that Diane Feinstein was older than sliced bread to point out her age… but now it’s hard to say she is older. Need a new politician to rag on.

TheOakTree,

The honing steel doesn’t actually sharpen (remove metal)

Doesn’t a honing steel also remove burrs?

TheOakTree,

Wikipedia is hardly an authoritative source for political factoids.

factoid: A piece of unverified or inaccurate information that is presented in the press as factual, often as part of a publicity effort, and that is then accepted as true because of frequent repetition.

So tell me, what is an authoritative source of factoids?

TheOakTree,

Yeah, they sell hats made to work with any pair of sunglasses apparently… the brand is called Notch.

TheOakTree,

I checked my throwaway/spam account. Apparently, I’m a high-wage tech employee at a large company, and I’m also a homeowner.

Damn, they think too highly of me.

TheOakTree, (edited )

When I imagine Low Fantasy, there’s usually a House/Guild/Company that has one special person who bolsters their trade. Whether that special person has a magical affinity to trade, fight, vex, spy, or charm… even a single magical advantage, when applied consistently, could lead to market dominance.

For example:

  • A successful and renowned caravan company has a magic-attuned fighter who can fend off thieves and ambushers, even if that means being the last alive.
  • Local herbalist is suspiciously beating all of the competition. Upon further investigation, it turns out they hired a magic-attuned individual to charm their goods, evoking positive affect in customers.

You should implicitly define an upper boundary to how many people can have magic abilities, and to how often said people have powerful abilities. For example, say the nation that your story exists in has 100 million people, and each 100 million yields a handful of magical people. One special person is probably a baby, and two of them are probably quite old. A couple magical people might be quite powerful, another couple has quite mundane abilities, and perhaps one is somewhere in the middle. There may be more or less than a handful of magical people in the nation, since people may come to or leave from your nation.

TheOakTree,

Patiently waiting for someone to turn this into another trolley problem

TheOakTree,

Silicon is not silicone, so that spot is not correct…

Unless you’re talking about using one of these fuckers:

Well, backyards are usually at the back of the house, so I figure that’s why it feels natural.

TheOakTree,

Honestly, the safest bet is to make a public match and let people join you so that if they get toxic you can just kick them.

However, I haven’t met too many toxic players. The ones that did act toxic were also likely people who are toxic in every game they play.

TheOakTree,

I like to play “solo scout” sometimes, but I try to be mindful of my proximity to teammates and to objectives. Ideally someone who runs off and loots or does side objectives is also able to make it back to the team to deal with a titan/tank. Also, there’s not much point in hoarding samples if you can’t extract.

Stamina booster and jetpack/shieldpack are essential for playing this way, though.

TheOakTree,

Which mod, may I ask? I may have been one of those downloads, lol

TheOakTree,

Ah, neat! What did you use to upscale the backgrounds?

TheOakTree,

Your lack of punctuation makes this comment read like it was written by a very smart duck :P

TheOakTree,

When did I say I didn’t understand it? I was just pointing out that you induced a silly image in my head.

TheOakTree,

You know, I would also like to beat errorists.

TheOakTree,

Greetings, yellow perfectionist.

FTFY

TheOakTree,

I don’t work in a sound recording space, but I know this because I had to do a voice recording for a project in middle school.

The recording picked up some extraneous noise in between a couple sentences, so I opened Audacity, took the noisy chunk, and deleted it outright so that there was empty space. It sounded very weird for some reason… so I simply recorded over the gap with me doing nothing, as if I were in between sentences. It worked! And I had no idea why…

Granted, this was less ‘room tone’ than ‘white noise from the amount of gain on my shitty mic’, but same concept.

TheOakTree,

Agreed. The difference in intensity is like the differences between caffeinated coffee/tea and caffeine pills.

TheOakTree,

Why have a sports cat when you can br cruising in a hot dog, or even better an entire wedge of cheese?

TheOakTree,

I second Rimworld, easy to get absorbed and forget that you haven’t had dinner and it’s 11PM
