In high school, I chose the path of mathematics for my higher education, and eventually computer science, because I liked problem solving. I still do.

Now, 10 years after I graduated college, I'm looking at my life thinking that I want to help people find the sense of belonging that I never had for the longest time. To help people feel accepted and understood.

How can I do that? How can I apply my skills to that? I have a talent for problem solving, and sure I could learn IT and help non-profits set up whatever IT systems they needed, but the thought of that is draining.

I also have a skill for going up on stage and talking about anything. Having anxiety, struggling with depression, being autistic and trans, dealing with breakups and parenting, it's so easy for me to talk about it on stage. To write poetry about it.

I'm terrible at communicating one on one IRL, but I'm good at talking on stage. That's what I want to do. I want to perform my poetry and connect to people. To talk and help them feel that sense of belonging and understanding.

Maybe that's not a viable career path, but it's what I want, and what I want to strive for. It's what I've been working towards in one way or another for almost six years. But 10 years ago, I didn't have an inkling of any of this.

Asking people to choose a path for their life at 18 is ridiculous, an unreasonable expectation set down by capitalists that want us to enter the work force immediately.

The point of this is college is dumb, capitalism is dumb, and I wanna help people feel less shitty about themselves.
