So you are citing a Fox News article, so that’s -1 off the bat.

The article itself did not properly tie the celebrities to the lynching.

The article talks about how Israelis consider the pin to be associated with an event in 2002. That involved 2 victims. Which is not only a stretch, but even if it were true, still does not mean the celebrities would be in on its secret meaning.

Honestly, i feel no matter the symbol that was chosen i am sure that there would be some connection made to discredit their actual motivation, which is to pressure a cease fire. Which is objectively moral.

Also even if it was true, the assertion that wearing the pin makes one an antisemite is false because Israel is not the Jewish people. You cannot blame all Jews for the war crimes of Israel, and Israel cannot frame criticism against it as antisemitism.

Find a better media diet.

I don’t know. When i look it up i see reporting that it was made by the group Artists4ceasefire. This is a group that consists of a large amount of actors and other entertainment personalities who signed an open letter demanding Biden push for a cease fire in 2023. So they made the pin sometime after that.

Is it your implication that because it was made after the murders in 2002 that means it’s connected, because if so you have failed to justify the connection.

“The Artists4Ceasefire enamel pin is composed of a red background to symbolize the urgency of the call to save lives,” the website said. “The orange hand conveys the beautiful community of people from all backgrounds that have come together in support of centering our shared humanity. The heart being cradled in the center of the hand is an invitation for us to lead with our hearts, always, to lead with love. When we lead with love, we understand that all of our fellow beings deserve to be loved and protected.”

Again, no matter what symbol they used, someone with an agenda can interpret to mean something that it was not intended in order to further that agenda. And the only people making that claim here has an agenda. Again even if you were right and the creator secretly intended to connect the two, you have to be able to prove that the participants were in on it. Which no one even attempted to do.

Is that what i did? Here are the facts: Artists4ceasefire during the Oscar’s used their collective voice to call for a cease fire.

They wore a red pin to show solidarity to this message.

Fox News reports that there are people who believe that the pin represents a double murder in 2002 by a mob.

Artists4ceasefire gives its meaning for the pin on there site, that does not connect it to the 2002 murders.

That is all. There is no connection established, and fox news insinuating there is one requires them to prove it. Which they did not do

It probably reflects the minds of the people. With good reason. It will take proactive curation of your feed to avoid it. Good luck

Same with me. It’s weird, during the end of the Mayan calendar my grandparents asked my dad to leave his wife and two kids to go into their bunker to prepare to fight off the minorities that all follow the Antichrist during the end times. The reason we were not invited to their crusade was my mom voted Democrat, and Jesus would not give souls to children who would live to see the end times as that would be to cruel for their god. He told them hell no. And it was weeks before they resurfaced again and pretended nothing ever happened. Could i have been conditioned thus if my dad don’t join the NAVY? Scary thought.

They are not arguing honestly, they did not require logic or factual reasoning to get to their position, they have 24/7 365 access to people who will reinforce their position. You would be wasting your time attempting to convince them away from their position.

Sure, but i would argue that a direct talk with the impressionable bystanders would be more fruitful then arguing with these people. But i do get it as a means to vent frustration, just got to know what to expect

I would like to be able to more effectively filter posts of languages i can’t understand. Using memmy i have been trying to filter posts by key word and entering common words in every language, but it’s not changed how much i scroll past, and it’s hard to determine if it’s effective at all.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I had not set these options yet. But they are set now. I am keeping undefined, not sure all that i would lose without it

A hammer doesn’t turn a profit either. Its a tool used for a purpose.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

My intention is that the value of the thing is what it can be used for. Its a tool that can be used to spread propaganda, and control the narrative. For the owner it’s a means to an end. Guess i should have clarified.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I was intending to use it as a metaphor. Meteors usually are not the exact thing they describe. Its goal doesn’t have to be a thing that turns a profit, when it can be used as a tool in other ways. I didn’t do a good enough explanation of my meaning

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I get the other responses as i wasn’t very clear on my meaning, but this confuses me.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

As long as there is hope i will vote Democrat in the general. But man, forcing the ambassador to veto a cease fire was a swift kick in the hope sack

I don’t know… posting the secret panel seems wrong. The secret panel to me seemed to be a concession that his comic would be posted on here, but would entice people to go to his website, which seems fair to me

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, all these comics have an additional panel on the source web site. They slowly appear after a few seconds, specifically to drive engagement.

I have always been hoping for an mmo where the devs in real time control the story and respond on the fly to player actions or planed reactions. I hear tales of emergent story telling only in ultimate online and eve online. I am interested in where this takes hell divers 2

So, the blog starts with an interview with an opinion that any steps to further green initiatives are not an actual solution. Any ground gained by such advances will be filled with more human mouths to feed. Just like when we pioneered new farming techniques to harvest better yields, we did not use that knowledge to farm smaller plots more efficiently. No we grew the fields to pump more profit out of the soil, lowered the cost of food and surged our population growth. We did not solve world hunger. The thought rings true and distressing. But the author disagrees. The author instead hopes that humans will suddenly mature and start doing whats right seemingly randomly. They put forward that wolves became dogs due to a change in genes. But that was not in a vacuum. This is bringing up a problem and then loudly announcing that we should all ignore it?

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Plans imply action. We have already failed the hope for the best part long before we were born. I don’t see any plans being made, other then the Uber rich going to mars and taking a cadre of slaves with them. I don’t know an answer that doesn’t involve tyranny, but hoping that humans change their nature by some miracle as the author suggests is as foolish as it is dangerous.

During COVID Some of us were “essential workers” and others got to complain about being stuck at home. But that was a minor gripe of mine. I would argue that arguing that people belonging to different strata of working class is about as useful as separating people by race. For the most part any conversation that doesn’t specify the need for the separation there is only one human race, and there is only the working class against the owning class.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know why but that hit me a little harder than it should have.
