I mean it sounds like they consider Holy book burning a chargeable hate crime… so it already kinda is.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think this was the right call. Don’t have it hosted on here, fine. But defederated? I don’t see how being federated would be an issue at all. Oh well guess i got to actively go seek them out now.

At this rate, you might as well as defederate from all instances. Cant be too careful.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Criticism is not attacking. They made an unpopular decision for a flimsy reason. Its their right to do it, just like its their right to be wrong about it. But if they can’t handle mild criticism, then maybe hosting a lemmy instance was a bad idea.

I think lemmy world will be fine with mildly annoyed comments and a bunch of down votes.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Better defederate from all instances then.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I must admit i am not up on the how’s of the fediverse. But even the instances that were blocked were not in violation themselves let alone every single ancillary that might be connected to them. If we follow the same reasoning, people do not own the memes they post, the videos, the books. And for this action to be initiated by some throw away banned rando means anything with any semblance of teeth will dictate what is federated and what is not

But really it’s whatever i guess, it’s only a minor annoyance. I was planning to have an alter account anyways

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

That is not persuasive to me really that they would have liability. But ultimately i don’t have to be convinced of anything. Its the instance owner to do as they wish. I think its the wrong call, and premature in the extreme. So do a lot of users. So if this is their decision then it will just come with disappointed posts and down votes and a little less engagement is all.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

That last part doesn’t sound like a very good idea.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I see the decision you made as the ultimate end to this path you and lemmy world tread. At this rate all federations should defederate each other, or just shut down the whole fediverse. We can go back to individual hyper-specific forums on phbb again.

I mean there is obviously a line between what should federated and what should not. But i feel the reasoning here is fundamentally different then the others chosen in the past.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I went with lemmy world so i could catch the widest net in content. And up till now i agreed with the reasoning of the other defederating.s But it seems like it won’t take much to provoke more restrictions. Guess i will have to lurk in other shores.

What are the benefits to the US Electoral College system?

So I’m a New Zealander and I have a pretty good idea on how the electoral college system works but it honestly sounds like something that can be easily corrupted and it feels like it renders the popular vote absolutely useless unless I’m totally missing something obvious?...

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Your listed positives of the electoral college seem like just more negatives, but with honey on top.

I see this as silly. This is like refugees going back to their home country to have a parade about the country they fled too.

Was r/place expected to return before the reddit bull shit? Or is this a pr stunt to get people to forget the latest reddit shitery?

I LOVE space Station 13. And space station 14 is good enough now to share with my friends.

Picture a lizard man. I started with 4 missing limb traits. They call me snake. I am crawling at the fastest possible speed (which is actually the slowest possible) to my duty station as the ships janitor. A medical assistant takes pity on me and drags me to medical to take a clone sample, and to get me fitted for robotic limbs. But interestingly, being in a wheelchair and put in the cone scanner reduced my speed by 2 additional. Causing an underflow of my characters unsigned speed integer. I rocket out of the pod at mach 5. I become the fastest living thing the universe has ever seen. People turn into piles of goo in my wake. Until eventually i wind up half way phased into a wall. I die moments later by asphyxiation. Sci then sends a request to engineering to extract my corpse from the station hull so i can be studied.

So i had to ask this too. So there is a button at the top right, looks like an envelope, that removes all messages from the unread category and removes the notification

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

I am giving it a try, been using mlem previously. It looks very sleek. I just need to find out how to remove the notification numbers on the inbox tab.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, thats how you do it. Thanks!

I got promoted out of my union into lower management. And i never understood why people thought the union was just taking their money.

Like the meetings i have been to consider the union at every turn. Its almost impossible to fire anyone who doesn’t do something the client would demand termination for. Any sort of paperwork filed against an employee has to be immaculate, and they got my company to force an advancement plan that includes training and milestones.

The only group with more say is safety.

I thought the law suit was centered around the fact that Twitter shit canned a bunch of programmers, and meta picked them up to make threads. So elon is claiming intellectual property theft.

At no point did they mention that they were trying to save free speech. That wouldn’t make sense.

I would hope elon loses this suit. You can’t force an employee you fired into a non disclosure agreement and then just not pay them wile locking them out of their field of work for 10 years.

I am not sure i am fully for alimony. Like child support? Definitely. But alimony is the argument that the spouce, almost exclusively women, are due a certain life style they enjoyed when married at the cost of the one who is working for it. The argument being that a spouse would stay in an abusing relationship because of the fear of losing quality of life. And that assuming that the spouse foregoes a career to raise children is left with low job prospects, and the state would rather not shoulder the burden of a social safety net. And so the working spouse has to pay.

Thats how its been argued to me anyway. I find it not very persuasive. No one is due a quality of life at the expense of other’s. If you divorce, you should toil for your own quality of life. And there should be a comprehensive safety net for those who are too old to hold a job, or can not find one.

WraithGear,
@WraithGear@lemmy.world avatar

My thought is that it’s based on the life style that the provider…provides. And maintaining that expectation of having the same quality of life is absurd, especially concerning that the providers will definitely not be able to maintain that quality of life for themselves. Especially in the case of a childless marriage, the other spouse was never removed from the work force unless they chose to be. And the provider may have been happy to sacrifice their life style at the time, but to force it on them after a divorce is wrong to me. And even if there was a child at one point, but has since become an adult i don’t see how one who was working a career should be on the hook for another forever. This basically prevents the one who pays from moving on to make another family due to financial constraints.
