Zink,

We have a lot of serious problems in the US to say the least, but to assert it cannot get any worse seems like such a naive privileged thing to say.

We have to keep working to improve things, but there are so many ways things could go way, way worse then they are now.

Zink,

They are like a big coal-rolling tractor trailer rumbling past somebody on an e-bike and shaking their finger at you because you could be pedaling right now to save minuscule amounts of energy.

Telling others to conserve is free. They themselves conserving could potentially mean less money!

Zink,

Sure, with that attitude!

It can be even more fun to say it about a guy.

Zink,

At the end you have to throw in “I told you that bitch crazy!”

I don’t know if it’s my favorite Chris Rock line, but it’s definitely the one I quote the most.

Zink,

There’s nothing homophobic about acknowledging that two or more enthusiastically consenting adult gentleman may jackhammer upon each others’ tonsils in the privacy of their own bedroom and/or truck stop.

I think it’s also not homophobia, and perhaps even being an ally, to point out when the people constantly trying to demonize the LGBT+ community are being hypocritical about it. And it’s not because they are gay or bi, it’s because it reveals how twisted their motivations are.

Zink,

Tens of thousands of calories!

Zink,

You are giving them way too much credit. Any combination of “god wants me to” with “God works in mysterious ways” and “the will of God is 100% infallibly and unerringly good” can justify pretty much any heinous act you can think of.

Zink,

Mobile games for kids are the worst. Those and any self-help mental health apps.

It’s $10 a month to access the features of a basic game that runs on the local device, or the subscription renews weekly, or you can get a 7-day free trial after which it charges you for the entire year. And in the latter case, you usually have to sign up for the free trial before you are allowed to see ANY content.

A cheap subscription makes sense for some things, especially those using cloud based resources. But so much of that business model seems to rely on making money by screwing people that forgot they were paying you.

Zink,

It could just be the Centauri and their thrice damned mass drivers again.

Zink,

I think there are some wise uses for “it is what it is” and YOLO, but that is mostly internal dialogue stuff. In conversation it feels way different.

Zink,

My middle school had an entire wing built from these things. There was even an enclosed hallway with a carpeted plywood floor, and doors directly into the dozens of “temporary” rooms.

I didn’t realize it was such a trend. Somebody must have really been pushing those things for school districts that weren’t rich enough to just throw up a building.

Zink,

What if I only read the headline, but I clicked through to the comments to see the fun and varied ways lemmings explained the obvious problem with the headline. Re: The manual door releases

Zink,

Seriously, I don’t know why so many people get this wrong!

We give guns to our cops to enforce the laws, and we should have higher expectations for the handling of their weapon than random schmuck off the street licensed gun owner.

We give the military and various other resources and powers to the President to execute the laws. They should also be held to an even higher standard! A bad guy as President can do a million times as much damage than they can as a cop.

Zink,

Oh yeah, those theater kids and their notorious disdain of LGBT and other marginalized groups.

Zink,

Well no, I was just making a joke about the stereotype.

Zink,

They are wider than most car tires, but they are also very tall. Their website says the tires are 285/65R20. Very high profile, even with 20” wheels.

Zink,

OR, they’ve already been through therapy and found some decent medication, and are keenly aware that personally enjoyable hobbies are an essential part of self care.

Not that I know anything about that.

Zink,

Oh boy, where to start. I’d say first, read up on the nitrogen cycle because that’s the most important part of filtration. Read up on KH (carbonate hardness too).

Then make sure you’re going to have more filtration than you need.

When designing the pond, keep predators in mind. I’m a fan of making the sides go straight down, and having the whole pond be deep. No places to walk into the water.

Plus, that kind of design means more water volume. More water volume means either more fish, or more stable water parameters and more room to grow. And along the same lines, build it to be as big as will fit! It’s a big cliche in the hobby that it’s never big enough, and here I am this year upgrading my ~3000 gal pond that’s 30” deep, to 6000+ gallons and about 5 feet deep.

If you install a bottom drain in the pond (recommended) gravity fed to a settling tank before it gets to the pump, you could vacuum all the fish poop out of that and get the majority of it very easily.

For the pond liner, you want 45 mil EPDM rubber. It is kind of expensive, but it is the standard for a reason.

And that’s not all the information obviously, but I think I’ve run out of steam, lol. I enjoy spreading the love with this hobby though, so please message me with future questions.

Edit to add: look up photos of bogs for ponds. They can be part of your filtration, but you can also plant a bunch of plants in it and the ones that can handle the wet roots will grow like crazy, eating nitrates and other nutrients directly from the water.

Zink,

Learning to not do this was an important part of my mental health journey. I’ve come to realize I was raised by some very negative people. Very nice people that I see regularly, but always looking for something to complain about rather than something to appreciate.

Zink,

In fact she said if it was up to her a lot of sport would be banned.

This is not a well adjusted person. Banning things other people like but that you don’t like… she could fit right in with the Trump crowd.

I just wanted to point that out. This isn’t me arguing with you by cherry picking one sentence out of your big post.

Zink,

I thought the problem with string theory is that its predictions match up with what the standard model already explains. Maybe that’s only for the things we have the capability to mature any time soon.

Zink,

I think a large number of super hero and comic book characters can be characterized as “beefcake with no body hair wearing funny underwear and/or tights.”

Not that women get treated any better!

Zink,

I read #3 in Jeff Gerstmann’s voice.

Zink,

Sneaky little atheistses, always being tricksy to outsmart the omnipotent & omniscient creator and maintainer of existence itself, precious!
