Texas power plants have no responsibility to provide electricity in emergencies, judges rule (www.kut.org)

Almost three years since the deadly Texas blackout of 2021, a panel of judges from the First Court of Appeals in Houston has ruled that big power companies cannot be held liable for failure to provide electricity during the crisis. The reason is Texas’ deregulated energy market....

Zippy,

Your contact is to pay for the power they provide. It is a regulated field so if something fails, then it is up to the regulators to cover the costs of they want more redundancy but 100 percent guarantees are not possible. Solar doesn’t provide all days and wind can be gone for weeks. Do you think you should be able to sue them for that?

Zippy,

A large portion of fighter pilots don’t actually fly a mission or a mission that involves weapons activation. That doesn’t make them any less of a fighter pilot. Most of the time they are training or just protecting assets.

But if you want to walk up to these guys and suggest they are not a fighter pilot cause they didn’t kill anyone yet then go ahead.

Zippy,

It is not a public place. It is a private establishment that allows some of the public in.

Zippy,

I will go against everyone here. You should buy a drink. Is polite. And it may make your friends bit uncomfortable.

That being said, while it is not a public place, not sure why they would care much considering others are purchasing something. Maybe your group should locate other location.

Zippy,

Do you see excess stock? Profits are not particularly high after the two years of costs that COVID created. Trillions of dollars were printed during COVID while people were not working and products were not being manufactured/farmed/repaired/…

There simply was/is more money floating around then stuff being produced. Unless God herself comes down and drops food/shelter/iPods from heaven, costs won’t come down. Failing that, it is up to us to produce these products otherwise nothing will change.

Zippy,

Most of developed world are pretty fed up with Hamas. Lemmy is not the norm.

Zippy,

A great number of countries on that list as those the likes of Russia, Saudia Arabia, North Korea… Not nations known for human rights or security.

Zippy,

Bernie would lose a great number of center votes. The guy was praising Chavez and Venezuela not that long ago. It is easy for him to suggest all these programs when he knows there is no way to pay for it.

Zippy,

No wonder depression and suicide rates are increasing.

How the NYPD defeated bodycams (pluralistic.net)

Police boosters insist that police violence and corruption are the result of "a few bad apples." As the saying goes, "a few bad apples spoil the bushel." If you think there are just a few bad cops on the force, then you should want to get rid of them before they wreck the whole institution. Bodycams could empirically identify...

Zippy,

Will not be long till we all have cams on us while we work.

Zippy,

I can see them eventually wanting personal cams with audio. Will happen.

Zippy,

If it is in a closed packb and no price is listed individually, then it is likely not for sale individually. You certainly should not be opening something to take one out.

Zippy,

Cat Genie.

Bit expensive and you need to connect to water and a drain. Either toilet or near washing machine works.

It worked for us for about 4 years. Works very well and washes the litter each use.

Zippy,

What universe are you in? Lemmy is far more caustic when it comes to politics. Is a bit embarrassing to tell the truth.

Zippy,

Was a part about a cop being ambushed and murdered few weeks back. There was quite a few posts and every single one of them were gleeful. I was happy to get down voted.

Or look at the response to anyone that might be republican. Unless you have the same opinion and echo back that, it is pretty caustic. Personally I like to hear from people with different opinion as it keeps your brain flexible but you will see little if that here.

Zippy,

Think it has been a few hundred years since Christianity has been outwardly expressing hate and acting on it. If course there will be individuals that are extreme. Mostly it is edge lords that like to include it in these overall statements.

Zippy,

Rural would be huge all the same. Certainly few people will get it individually but it will be common for multiple people to get together and share along with cafes etc.

Zippy,

How do you know they were not getting any information and how do you know they could get good information to begin?

This is not like the news where you are suppose to get balanced reports. That is goofy to think that. If validated, you use the information you get.

Zippy,

I have never worn out a pair of shoes that way. Not against what you suggest but if they takes say 20 percent more energy but only 5 percent of people will take any advantage of it, that is a fifteen percent hit to the environment.

I just took those numbers out of my ass but there is a good chance that if you force companies to build say a product like this more durable, it could end up costing the consumer and the environment more than less. It is near impossible to legislate.

Chevron Plans to Spend $14 Billion on Oil and Natural Gas Production in 2024 (www.energyportal.eu)

Chevron’s ambitious plans reflect its optimistic outlook on the industry and its confidence in the future of oil and natural gas. The $14 billion investment will be focused on various projects worldwide, including exploration, drilling, and infrastructure development. These projects will contribute to Chevron’s overall...

Zippy,

Which is a pretty legitimate write-off considering they are an expense. To expand what you mean is that in some cases they can be expensed entirely in one or two years instead of 5 or 6 years that most capital assets will be mostly written down. In the end, the government gets the same amount of taxes and the company will pay a similar amount of taxe. It is pretty hard to call that a subsidy. But this is always the one that comes up because typically there is no tax dollars provided and little to no other benefits oil and gas receive.

But secondly, and why it is pretty much a legitimate write off is that often, especially with exploration, the well value does not provide returns. When that is the case, all the capital spent on said well pretty much has zero value. It makes sense and is fair to write it off. You can do that on any business if you can justify that the item is no longer viable and you can’t sell it.

There are a number of reasons we should limit our fossil fuel consumption but it certainly is not for the tax benefits it provides.

Zippy,

So is solar and wind. Compared to fossil fuels that is. But it is worth it all the same.

Zippy,

This is Russia and China, if you read the article, increased control of the middle East and locking down additional world energy control.

Zippy,

Could be someone running a server. Would be easy for them to wholesale script to go thru all your posts and down vote.

Why would I want to use the multi-desktop functionality in Windows 11?

In Windows 11 there’s a button on the taskbar next to the start button that lets you switch between multiple desktop environments. It seems like something that would probably be useful in theory, but I can’t think of any reason why I would want to use it. Is it actually useful? What do people use it for?

Zippy,

And if you collaborate with you ride it kids, ie share bookmarks etc, this is much easier then separate accounts and speeds up login requirements.
