Threads is new Facebook. Don't change my mind πŸ˜…

afterdesign,

@pixelnull true but I'm loorking on Threads and it looks like people want it to be another platform for influencers like Instagram. But how it looks like it feels like Facebook in the "old days" where people were writing what "they were thinking" πŸ˜…

EDIT: while this did solve some problems for some people, it didn’t solve the notification issue that was reported.

I just found and fixed an issue with infosec.exchange that I hadn't seen in a long time. The problem was that sometimes feeds would not refresh, particularly notifications. The problem started around the time I upgraded to 4.2.0, however that isn't the problem. A look at the web server error logs shows lots of instances of this error:
24: Too many open files

This is a problem I fought a lot in the early days. The issue is the file limits in ubuntu are too low for busy web servers (infosec.exhange web servers regularly have 3000-4000 active connections)

The fix is pretty simple - adding
LimitNOFILE=1000000
to the nginx.service file. The problem is that when I upgraded mastodon, I also upgraded nginx. And apparently, like a bastard, nginx replaced the system service file, which no longer contained the LimitNOFILE=1000000 statement.

Hope that helps someone else...

afterdesign,

@jerry FYI instead of adding this to nginx.service that comes with the package you can use override file. You can do it with systemctl edit or manually by creating file /etc/systemd/system/nginx.service.d/limits.conf with:

[Service]

LimitNOFILE=100000

You can find all the info here: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/1257953

Is anyone using the Mastodon app on Android having trouble logging into infosec.exchange or other mastodon instances, with the error that it "seems not to be a Mastodon server"?

I don't have android and it appears to be working fine on iOS

afterdesign,

@jerry using mastodon on Android and no issues

I am thinking about buying armrests that are attached to the desk.
Why ? Because I would like to slide in more under the desk and I can't retract arm rests on my armchair πŸ˜…

So anyone tested this and has any thoughts on it ?

afterdesign,

@hrw Yeah this is not my fav position as I have to lean forward a bit. I want to have my arms in the 90 degree position with my body.

afterdesign,

@simonzerafa yes it is. But again I want to have 90 degrees in my arms and to rest them comfortably.

And I can't achieve that currently as I can’t slide in under the desk a bit when the armrest on chairs cannot move back.

afterdesign,

@simonzerafa I like the chair so no replacement is needed. Gonna test things out :)

Yeah and this is why single player should not require internet connection 😬

Is it time to take a break from local pogo community ? Might be. I'll loose some info about IRL events but also I'll stop reading the same arguments all the time.

And I can always get info from social media about planned events.

Not enough time for everything is one thing and being tired by people is another (intravert) thing.

afterdesign,

@sowa People/community doesn't have to change because I would like to discuss different things and in a bit different manner.

I still really enjoy meeting with you and some other folks but in general it's a bit annoying.

In the old days I would create separate community and still might do it for Bezrzecze when I will move there.

And I'm on discord to talk but the discussion is really about the same things:

 1. I don't like this feature
 2. Niantic is screwing up
 3. Game is stupid
 4. Rayquaza vs Pikachu
 5. Incel quotes from some crappy internet websites.

So yeah I'm tired of people lately πŸ˜…

afterdesign,

@sowa I mean that changing the community for 1 person is not a good thing.

I just need less "toxicity” that you are refering in my life right now as I have a lot on my head nowadays and stress is eating me up.
Normal thing for me - remove myself from things so I can focus on other things.

So it's me and that’s it. If things work for most of the people then don't change it because someone like me whines about it πŸ˜…

afterdesign,

@sowa We both know how hard it is to run healthy community. You get nothing from running this discord and i have to be clear that I really have no complaints to you. And no expectations also.

People are there and this is how things go if you have somewhat diverse community.

Maybe I'm too old for this shit πŸ˜…

@jerry What do you want to evolve Eevee into ? πŸ˜…

I wanted to get a number for my "feature" home. I got info that I can do it before we're gonna start to build.

And it looks like I can't do it as I need a map from the government office where the building is already visible.

So yeah, another thing that I need to wait for πŸ˜…

afterdesign,

@sowa No. When you start building a house it will show up in base or cadastral map as contour.
Now that map shows the land and nothing on it.
