Criticizing Israel? Nonprofit Media Could Lose Tax-Exempt Status Without Due Process (theintercept.com)

It doesn’t take much to be accused of supporting terrorism these days. And that doesn’t just go for student activists. In recent months, dozens of lawmakers and public officials have, without evidence, insinuated that U.S. news outlets provide material support for Hamas. Some even issued thinly veiled threats to prosecute...

Freedom of the press to do whatever they want.

“They,” of course, doesn’t refer to the press itself, but to the government toadies pushing this crap.

Welp…guess he’s fair game for the internet, now.

Blinken blamed social media in general when asked by Romney why Israel was losing the global PR war.

Right, social media is at fault. It’s definitely not the fact that Israel is commiting genocide and other war crimes.

A Columbia professor wanted to document history. NYPD arrested him outside his home (www.usatoday.com)

Gregory Pflugfelder had just finished the final class of his career at Columbia. In 28 years at the university, he achieved many accolades as a professor of history who taught a popular course on Japanese monsters – mostly focused on Godzilla and "the role of the monstrous in the cultural imagination."...

Even (and, perhaps, especially) given the circumstances, I think it’s time we start calling them gestapo. Disgusting.

The US schools suspending/expelling peaceful protestors/occupiers are not creating the safe spaces they think they are, when it opens up opportunities like this (and makes them sound appealing).

I seriously hope no one tries to take them up on it because, if they weren’t antisemitic (specifically anti-Jewish), then the Houthis will definitely return them with a hate for Jews, since it’s one of their tenets.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

alquicksilver,
@alquicksilver@lemmy.world avatar

Nah, it makes perfect sense! If we don’t support Israel, then we’re not “real” Jews. Or is it that we’re supposed to be self-hating? Either way, I know I always look forward to (usually some flavor of Christian) politicians telling me how to be a Jew.

I’m not Israeli, so not entirely sure about their laws, but Wikipedia confirms that there are non-Jewish citizens.

As a Jew, though, it would be far easier for me to obtain Israeli citizenship than it would be for a gentile.

Saw this and sat for a second, thinking “okay, vanilla bean and soy bean…that’s only two. Milk isn’t a bean. What’s the third?”

I’m an idiot.

I would like to take this opportunity to note that I’m someone who likes to chew ice.

For anyone who does this (at least in the US): Tell me you’re white without telling me you’re white.

Otherwise, you’re suicidal at best.

I will never understand humanity; how it can be a controversial opinion to not want to commit genocide is beyond me. I’m glad WFP is able to stand up to AIPAC.

Sari Bashi, Human Rights Watch’s program director, said in an interview that the incidents highlighted in NBC News’ investigation are not isolated. “People are fleeing to roads that the government told them to use to places where the Israeli government told them to go, […] And when they go there, they get killed.”

Not enough people are saying the quiet part out loud: that this seems by design on the part of IDF; when members of their own government call for genocide (WaPo article with more sources and details), it’s not much of a stretch to think they’re trying to round up Palestinians to make killing them easier.

For me, I can’t stop staring at the clearly defined edge of his makeup. It’s so obvious that I’m beginning to think his (probably underpaid) MUA does it intentionally.

It’s not perfect, but the biggest reason I refuse to watch the Les Mis movie again is because Russel Crowe cannot sing for shit; having him play Javert, a leading and powerful singing role, ruined what was otherwise a decent movie adaptation of a stage musical. It even had some really amazing casting choices, but that one absolutely ruined it for me.

It took me a second to realize this is supposed to be Germany and not Mickey Mouse as a ball. Now I’ve just learned that MM has the same coloring as the German flag. Huh.

Team Trump Is Ready to Lose the Supreme Court Immunity Case. They're Celebrating (www.rollingstone.com)

Donald Trump‘s inner circle doesn’t expect the Supreme Court to go along with his extreme arguments about executive power in the immunity case before the justices. But what the high court does now is almost beside the point: Trump already won....

We know why we’re hated; it’s why those of us who strive to exemplify professionalism, ethics, and civility are so angry and depressed. It’s why I’ve been having a career crisis because I always wanted to go into law, but only to do good, and now it feels like there is so little legitimacy to the judicial branch.

Fuck the people who abuse the rule of law until there is none, fuck Trump and his cronies, and fuck SCOTUS for fucking us. Now excuse me, I have to go cry in a corner.

alquicksilver,
@alquicksilver@lemmy.world avatar

I’m fortunate enough to be practicing in a field that does help people (though not nearly as much as I’d like…someone give me Elon’s money and then I’ll be able to make a real difference). The problem is that lawyers/judges like the ones who are handling cases like Trump’s are destroying the rule of law, the efficacy of the courts, and doing whatever they can to dismantle the very system we use to determine whether we have rights or not (dismantle it and the answer is a very clear “not”). The US legal system is already a clusterfuck with not enough budget and inequitable treatment depending on who you are; if things like precedent no longer mean anything, as SCOTUS has recently started making clear, then the legal system becomes completely unnavigable.
