Victorian patriarch - I’d like a family crest, something that shows valour, strength and a long lineage & heritage
Victorian graphic designer - right, a severed knight’s arm surrounded with text saying _we used to be"

alskicav,

@ronanmcd the first draft motto was "Tis but a scratch"

For this on the theme of I've interpreted it as a song that spins, circles and repeats in a loop so I've gone for this woozy hypnotic classic from Prince -

The correct titles in the sequence of Shakespeare's historical plays is

Henry IV: First Blood
Henry IV: First Blood Part 2
Henry V: Son of Henry

The first production of Julius Caesar was a musical, with Marc Antony's line "Cry havoc! And let slip the dogs of war" being followed with a musical number by a chorus of Baha Men singing "Who letteth the dogs out"

In the first draughts of his play, Shakespeare portrayed Hamlet not as a Prince of Denmark, but as a struggling artist deliberating his choice of which pencil to use.

Othellos were an Elizabethan delicacy, a sweetmeat snack that Shakespeare found irresistible. So much so that he named the play and titular character after them....because they were so "moreish"

It is long rumoured that Shakespeare enlisted the help of another playwright in completing his works. This is thought to be Sir Francis Bacon a polymath of science, philosophy and art who spent so much time in University education it led to the phrase "the six degrees of Francis Bacon"

Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway, created a local business that was the first-ever use of door-to-door sales for pomades, tinctures and ceruse make-up compounds, creating the original "Avon Ladies"

And here's another offering for 's theme of

From the tribute concert to George Harrison, Prince providing a scorching improvised solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

There are a lot of accomplished performers on that stage and they all look dumbfounded at what Prince does. At the end the Purple maestro throws his guitar into the air but i'm not sure it ever came down, instead ascending to guitar heaven.

And here's another one of those all-star cast tribute concerts. This one with John Lee Hooker joined on stage with guests Carlos Santana, Robert Cray, Bonnie Rait & Ry Cooder

So, Steely Dan, not a band some like because of associations with anodyne 'yacht rock' but I f***ing love them & they have many great guitar moments.

The solo on the original was by session player Elliott Randall & rated by Led Zep's Jimmy Page as his favourite solo of all time famously giving it a "12 out of 10".

But I'm not giving you the original 😆. Here's a rollicking live version from 1973 with Skunk Baxter on lead.

MOVIE TRIVIA: 🍿🤔
Name the only film in Oscar history to receive four female acting nominations.

And the answer (props to @flargh for nailing this one):

All About Eve. From 1950. Incredible that this has not happened again.

alskicav,

@davemark

This is tricky. I was thinking of big female-driven blockbuster films like Terms of Endearment or Thelma & Louise. Ones in which the same actress was nominated for both lead and support categories. This led me to think of Gone With the Wind too.

But I'm going for All About Eve which had 4 different female actors nominated.

I grew up listening to punk but I was only 7 or 8 at its peak. During the 80s I was into new wave & synth pop and then the decade gave way to indie, British takes on psychedelia, 60s revivals and the Madchester sound. I was at Uni when this song came and blew it all away. A new decade, a new sound but more than that it felt generational, maybe what it was like for those, 15 years earlier when punk happened.

The letter yogh was used in Older Scots, representing 'y'. It looked like this Ȝ ȝ, so when printing took off, printers often used 'z' when yogh was not available in their fonts.

A famous example is the name 'Menzies' which is pronounced like 'Ming-is'. Based on that, please enjoy 2 different ways to read this rhyme.

'There once was a lassie named Menzies,
Who askit her aunt whit this thenzies.
Said her aunt wi a gasp,
"Dear Me, it's a wasp",
An you're haudin the end whaur the stenzies!'
