I never imagined that at the age of 51 I would be completely completely over and done with driving at night. I used to intentionally drive at night, sometimes just to do it. But now if I have to go out after dark, I don’t like it. I feel like this is a major aging thing and I don’t like that either. I mean, I’m happy to be alive to age, but the rest of it is rather shitty.

I am locked out of a website that I need to access because I was unable to successfully identify items in a set of horrid CAPTCHA photos that appear to have been taken with a potato. Knowing now that CAPTCHA is essentially an AI training tool that has been used on all of us without our consent, I am doubly angry. Meanwhile, I can’t find any way to even contact this company to find out how I can get access to my account now. If I ever regain it, it’ll be to close the account entirely.

Has anyone been able to change their home and auto insurance lately in order to save money?

I’ve been with one company for 25 years, maybe more, and I’ve been shopping around just to see what’s available but every quote I get increases my auto premium 50% or more and my home premium more than doubles, for the same coverage as I currently have. I’m guessing new customers of my current insurer are paying much more too.

Insurance is such a complete racket.

Speaking of companies that spend millions lobbying our lawmakers in order to pump up their own profits, I see that Meta’s lobbying efforts have paid off handsomely, and and the house has overwhelmingly voted to ban TikTok.

Mark Zuckerberg bought that vote as surely and foully as he bought all of those thousands of ill gotten acres of indigenous land in Hawaii.

Intuit, the company that spends millions lobbying to keep our tax system overly complicated for their own profit has, through their subsidiary Credit Karma, come up with “money dysmorphia,” a pathologizing term for young people - millennials specifically because its always open season - who have “above average“ savings, but still feel they are struggling financially.

Maybe they feel that way because they have money in the bank but still can’t afford to buy a house or have children.

Now that Facebook is back, my entire timeline is people saying that they thought that they’d been hacked, or that their account got suspended or nuked.

That speaks loudly to the insecurity that users feel about their data safety on Meta’s sites and due to the opacity of the company’s moderation policies that cause people to be suspended or banned without warning and often without legitimate reason.

The full blown fascist wing of congressional Republicans, who cannot achieve anything, cannot even fulfill their one constitutional obligation of passing a budget, and most of whom couldn’t find their own feet with annotated directions, want to stop Biden from giving the State of the Union because he hasn’t done “enough” to satisfy them. And Joni Ernst, whose prior claim to fame was ability to castrate pigs, is their message bearer on this.

These people are a scourge. On the planet.
