Last night's Oscars saw a sweep by "Oppenheimer," a surprise win for Emma Stone, a new record for Billie Eilish, and a near-naked John Cena. Here's our @Flipboard Storyboard to wrap things up.
Still buzzing about #Oppenheimer after their big Oscar win(s) this weekend? We've got you covered.
Dive into this 1963 episode of “Exploring the Universe,” featuring Dr. #RobertOppenheimer and Dr. I. I. Rabi (portrayed in the film by Cillian Murphy and David Krumholtz). They discuss their first introduction to #science and the societal impact of developing the #AtomicBomb at #LosAlamos.
I've never been one to care about the Oscars but I find myself thinking of how many rich attendees were forced to walk past protestors fighting to free Palestine and see an immediate ceasefire.
We stood in solidarity with their protest when they went on strike while they crossed our picket line... Food for thought.
“20 Days in Mariupol,” Mstyslav Chernov's harrowing chronicle of the besieged #Ukrainian city and the international journalists who remained there after Russia's invasion, won the Academy Award on Sunday night for the best feature-length #Documentary.
The Ukrainian Director said: I wish I never had to make this film.
"This is the first Oscar in Ukrainian history, and I'm honoured," Chernov said in a powerful acceptance speech to a standing ovation.
"But probably I will be the first director on this stage who will say I wish I never made this film. I wish to be able to exchange this to Russia never attacking Ukraine, never occupying our cities. I wish to give all the recognition to Russians now killing tens of thousands of my fellow Ukrainians. I wish for them to release all the hostages, all the soldiers who are protecting their lands, all the civilians who are now in their jails." 😢
My local repertory theatre was showing the ceremony on the big screen. Watched the glitz and glam with a glass of cider and some homemade kimbap and banchan.
Folks were chatting with friends old and new. There were quizzes during the advert breaks and everyone filled in a prediction card to win a bigger prize.
3 WTFudge moments when the cinema rumbled or gasped:
-Emma Stone beating out Lily Gladstone for Best Actress
-Robert Downey Jr not acknowleding his fellow nominees
-Al Pacino getting straight down to business and opening the envelope
Anyone else in the @sewing community on Mastodon watch Emma Stone’s dress fail on the #Oscars2024 and immediately know why?
I’m such a #sewing geek, I was watching with my wife and I said, “why would they use a #3 invisible zipper on a dress that heavy? They should have a used a #5 invisible zipper, like on wedding gowns!”
Then I rewinded the PVR to see if I was right, and lo and behold, that invisible zipper is indeed way too light for a dress that thick and heavy!
Best speech at the #Oscars tonight, by Cord Jefferson who won for Best Adapted Screenplay:
"I understand this is a risk-averse industry – but instead of making one $200 million movie, try making ten $20 million movies. The next Scorsese is out there, the next Nolan is out there; They just want a shot.”

It was the most watchable Oscars in years where Brits and Godzilla triumphed – but Louis Vuitton zippers and a certain ex-president didn’t
