Been playing around with Bluesky a bit & it’s pretty interesting. They have an easier consumer experience (signup/discovery/UI works like Twitter) and it all feels very snappy. I like how they use domain names (or subdomains) instead of what look like funky email addresses. By far the biggest problem Jay & co face is that Jack Dorsey has effectively poisoned the well on everything from people assuming it’s a crypto platform (it’s not) to assuming (understandably) that be bad at trust & safety.

@andresmh@hci.social avatar

@anildash did you figure out how to set up a bluesky server?

I wrote some JavaScript that prevent Twitter Blue user's tweets from ever even showing up in the timeline and can also autoblock them based on follower count.

@malwaretech this JS solves it more effectively πŸ˜†

If I were teaching ethics again next year, I’d totally use this as a class case study. Regardless of the merits of opt in/out in general, what a dumpster fire of ethical reasoning. Unless you’re a utilitarian with a very specific set of assumptions about utility. (HT @Edent) https://github.com/rom1504/img2dataset/issues/293

@mdekstrand @Edent ick! web scrappers are not new. Is this mainly giving more visibility of that practice or something new?

Joint notetaking is a really cool idea for a workshop (AutomationXP) - never seen so many questions at talks and it really makes it easy to identify things that are controversial, interesting, or unclear.

What is attending CHI if not a misadventure in delays and cancellations.

I've now been in Dulles for 8.5 hours, but after multiple delays and a cancellation, there is now a new flight so I might get to leave the US.

Who will be at ? Come say hi! (if I make it).
