@gael it won’t. Surveillance capitalists are going to find a way to block you from getting anything done running this. What is needed is competent and vigilant government

@gael Oh, I applaud people who try, and people who work toward this goal. I'm just incredibly cynical after having watched Google subvert the internet into something that makes me depressed rather than hopeful for the future of humanity

I do wish Apple Music would chill out. If I pop out in the car and play some tunes, I get these messages to welcome me back.

@jonhicks yeah. I’m seeing these even when I don’t have anything playing but with the app open, and in a paused state

@Vivaldi dunno if this is something Youtube changed, or something that went wrong in the last update, but I'm gettingplayback errors on some videos on MacOS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXPCNJBQGwo - this plays fine in Chrome and Safari

Version: 6.7.3329.21 (Stable channel) (arm64)

@Vivaldi I found a thread from another user on the forums, and added what I could to that thread. It resolved with a reboot and hasn’t returned since. Up until then, it affected specific videos on YT, and consistently on nrk.no. (And yes, tried with a clean profile with all tracking protection enabled and disabled).

While I love @Vivaldi very much, and have made it my favorite browser, there is one thing, that's probably a feature, that seriously annoys me:

The first dropdown suggestion.

If I blindly type "Youtu" and press Return, I get some seemingly random youtube video instead of youtube.com. Neither the youtube vid, nor the random link is in my bookmarks. As much as I like Margaret Berger, I don't want her to be my default Youtube experience

Hey, I like to interact with people here, replying to others’ posts and especially to replies to my own.

But… if you have an opaque handle, no links in your profile, no introduction post, and no avatar, I probably won’t.

arve,
@arve@mastodon.social avatar

@timbray While I get "Opaque Handle", "No Introduction Post" and "No Avatar", I don't entirely get "No Links". I've given up on maintaining my own sites, and don't want to link other properties for privacy reasons.

(Or is this an either/or?)

So, my TV turns itself on from standby, asking me if it should go into standby mode. I don't know if this is an Android TV problem, or related to my particular brand (TCL).

Not that it makes much of a difference, because the only other choice these days seems to be LG/WebOS, and while it doesn't turn on randomly to turn itself off, the UI is a disaster area.

I wish someone competent UI dev would create a TV, or that manufacturers just went back to creating dumb TV's

Have to say I'm impressed by the Collective Cognitive Dysfunction of Meta and their executives.

EU/Norway: Your surveillance of users is illegal.

Meta: We'll switch to an extortion model instead, in the vain hope that there's some legal loophole that makes it legal.

PLEASE. Does anyone know how to stop Logi Options app showing this annoying red mute icon on top of all windows?

At the moment I'm just quitting the process in Activity Monitor to stop it (but it keeps relaunching). I’ve even changed the F9 key to not be mute/unmute, but it does it even when I'm not near my keyboard.

Going mad! 🫠

arve,
@arve@mastodon.social avatar

@jonhicks For things like button customization on a mouse, I would suggest BetterTouchTool - cheap, unobtrusive, and offers a whole lot more than Logi Options

On browsers: I have railed against Chrome, and I will likely continue to do so in the future because Google is actively trying to destroy user privacy.

On a more positive note: @Vivaldi after the 6.2 update is by far the snappiest browser I've used. It's also, by no small margin the most responsive React UI I've ever seen.

Gotta love a browser that aims to preserve my privacy and that provides the best user experience, bar none.

So Reddit didn't actually delete the data - also these videos are no longer on YT so the thumb is cached

Reddit was always my go to. There was Twitter, del.icio.us, Digg, HN, or Facebook/Instagram.

Despite flaws, Reddit drama, the occasional death threat, earlier protests/blackouts, there was always something to come back to. Small, truly helpful communities. Discourse you could visit and revisit, on any topic.

This last piece of drama feels different. It feels like this is it.

It's the end of Reddit as we know, and I feel fine.

arve,
@arve@mastodon.social avatar

Reddit's strength, since users could create subreddits was always the volunteers. They managed to create, and mostly maintain order and civility.

Thing is, we're now over 17000 moderators that are closing the doors for our subreddits, covering over 1.5 billion subscribers. Some may open if Reddit backtracks. Some may opt to keep them shut. Some may just leave forever.

If the last happens in any scale, Reddit can never recover, as it will become a horrifying cesspool.

I need to watch some of the more dystopian Black Mirror episodes again to lighten my mood and wash that Apple presentation off my mind.

The projected face, the 3d FaceTime-replica, and wanting to disconnect from those around you while still "interacting" with them, creeps me out to no end.
