Genuine question. Over on bird app there's this discourse that if you like BTS rap, but not the rest of the genre you're a racist stuck on stereotypes (my understanding is that people are saying they don't like the messages in most rap).

And since I literally fall into this (there is some rap I like but for the most part it's not my cuppa) I'd like some other opinions or at least thoughts on this?

@meghanwithanx rapline are rooted in 90s rap and hip hop for sure, so yeah, it doesn't make sense to not like rap and hip hop but like rapline's work 🤷‍♀️

@pixelcats this probably doesn't make as much an impact outside the US, but the main problem for some of us with twitter is the way it is being transformed into a white supremacist platform just in time for the US elections, and not as much (although that sucks too!) that it's corporate and eats our data. tbs, but i don't think threads will be quite as straightforwardly fascist as twitter, and that's a big difference for me. the way i see it, most twitter people are just not going to come

I'm kinda excited for P92/Threads, only because it'll help to get my Instagram-using kid into the fediverse.

All those insisting on defederating Meta immediately aren't taking that into account. The clueless masses will see that they can talk to people beyond Meta's platform and start to understand federated social media and I cannot understand how is that possibly a bad thing?

Sure, I'm nervous because it'll flood fedi with the clueless masses for a while, but that's happened before, and fedi coped, and the masses started to integrate and adjust.

I don't know if Threads will have ads (probably) but the masses will be exposed to users saying 'ads? I don't see no ads' and some will migrate to masto, pixelfed, calckey etc.
