let me tell you about the fucking cracktop

the cracktop is the name i lovingly gave the lenovo z570 ideapad i've had since the age of 5 and now use as my nostalgiabox / linux machine

this laptop isn't too noteworthy, it's just a laptop.. but it's very special to me

so, i'm gonna document the cracktop incidents (that i can remember) just so /i/ can keep track of them

1. when i was like 6, i was very impatient and i accidentally broke the screen out of pure anger. the cracktop became essentially a desktop pc for a while until the screen was replaced
2. the charging socket broke, and apparently at the time someone thought it would be a good idea to solder the charging cable onto the motherboard. i'm fucking scared of it but whatever
3. for some reason starting around 2021 if you lightly tapped it, it would just fucking restart. like. instantly power off and then come back on. i can only assume there's a borked connection somewhere
4. at a certain point the gpu just started doing some funky shit and now sometimes it'll just start Flickering funny colours and patterns
5. throughout all of this, the cracktop has had some issues.
   it's never been good at having a working wi-fi card (it does work it just takes a lot of finagling), etc, but around 2022 the disc drive stopped reading burned discs. typical fixes were just Letting it sit for a few days, they don't work anymore
6. around this time, the cracktop just. stopped working. it would turn on, but nothing would happen, aside from SOMETHING making a real loud buzzing noise after like 4 minutes of it being on. after a month or so the cracktop was completely disassembled and reassembled. it started working after that.
7. at one point, the speakers blew out. at another point, while on call with my friend, i decided to play horribly distorted cbat through the cracktop on full volume. the right speaker doesn't work anymore.
