Microsoft is really giving me a hard time. Trying to unblock a mail-server for outlook.com is ... challenging ...

Last treat: Whenever I try to load the SNDS site I get a 200 response with no content ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Other treats included help-pages with all links ending in 404s or logouts that do not log you out...

Sometimes I wonder whether that outlook thingy is just a huge phishing scam...

@heiglandreas they're also getting really picky about spf, dkim and dmarc being right

Yes all 3

Ugh

auroraeosrose,

@heiglandreas they also use spamhaus lists and each 365 enterprise can have additional blacklists

Today's annoying bug find. strripos check with if instead of explicitly checking for false. Guess who was getting a zero valid match.

I have hit this issue before in this library and finally cared enough to dig...

Mumble.... using forked patched libraries in composer while waiting for fixes makes me grumpy

Actual conversation with vendor yesterday which changed the tone of the meeting and made the sales guy shut up

Them : "All our REST apis are documented with swagger"

Me: "You haven't updated to using openapi"?

Silence, whisper, shuffled papers.

Tech guy: "we're using the latest version of openapi"

After that it was a far more useful conversation lol

I would argue with @ramsey s statement that being active on mailing lists and helping others isn't being involved in open source

Every answer someone gives to a user's problem is mental weight a maintainer or contributor can let go of

Ziparchive not working on streams has me a bit irritated and debating yanking out the compiler.... for now a phpland zip implementation solves the issue but sad...

Last minute decided to go to this year. Trying to decide if I want to make the drive tonight or tomorrow morning... have to find a hotel for the night if I decide on the late drive.

Excited to see that, even if I can't be physically at , I'm still making an impact :-)

@ericmann mmmmm, numpy

We can do that.....

One of the reasons I stay where I am despite the bad stuff is that we make real, physical things that are useful at the end of the day. But it also means that the problem space is often a bit different than the typical "web"

I'm getting failed php master (8.4) tests on windows due to line ending shenanigans.

As in diffs are failing from a stream outputting the wrong line feed at eof so you get a bogus diff

Wonder who broke that... and when
Ugh, now I have to figure out

The best documentation is written by newcomers

They find the important stuff that the current folks "already know"

So many old-timers in this room. So many php careers that can vote, drink... and a few that are old enough to run for president.

Why does all "enterprise" software want to horizontally scale application servers but vertically scale the db. The db is always the bigger bottleneck now that most systems have moved off of crufty winforms desktop apps.

The best way I've heard AI(llm) assistance with coding is it's moving the work to code review instead of code generation. Considering how bad most people are at code review... this will not end well.

Look at that, Microsoft put MS Dos on github

I'm living in bizarro world I think

if every user did just one documentation fix a year - what @ramsey calls "light open source contributions"

We would be light-years ahead

PHP upgrades are easier with tests, ci-cd, static analysis and orchestration. Up front investment always sucks but it pays off so much. Our last PHP upgrade took less than an hour.

We need more cool applications written in PHP

I remember the blog and framework and CMS wars

Those times of competition made everything better

The way to get into open source is to show up. Mailing lists, github, discord and slack. Ask questions, read. But first you have to just show up.

@ramsey I think there are quite a few of us in the same age cohort who lived this.
