I know people like to think iPadOS 'forked' from iOS when it was renamed a few years back, but it really didn’t. If you install Xcode, both iPhone and iPad simulators run out of the exact same OS root. It's the same set of apps, the same SpringBoard — it just decides which features you get at runtime based on screen size and a feature map. That's not a fork; the name essentially means nothing. A brand new $4,000 iPad runs the same OS as your six year old phone
Today I finished my second day in the role of Director of Software Engineering at Traveler’s Insurance. My primary focus areas are onboarding and mentoring early-in-career engineers and supporting the engineering development experience. OK, so you know the so-called "source code leak" from Rabbit for the #r1 last week? It wasn't a real leak, but what it showed was different than what I was expecting. So Rabbit Hole, the way you configure your R1 -- it only works on desktops, which I thought was rather odd. And then I went to manage my connection and I figured out why. This whole thing is a fucking VNC session in the web browser served as if it is a modal login
@film_girl@cabel yeah, whole-heartedly agree! Proton is it's own wild psuedo operating system (which sometimes runs better than Windows itself), and Playdate OS is wholesome (and now runs wipeout??) 😍
