Haven't been using my 2013 laptop for many months. Wonder if I should set it up as a dedicated dos box 🤔

Hello from ledit, first try!

badlogic,
@badlogic@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@paintedsky it's a (not so) read-only, client-side only Reddit, Hackernews, RSS feed, Mastodon reader I'm working on, so I can view all my content sources the way I like it.

In Mastodon's case, I'm making it read and (light) write at the moment.

Federation ain't so great for discussion. Here's a toot from a user from the mastodon.social instance. It was boosted by a user on mastodon.gamedev.place, which I'm also on.

If I fetch the descendants (aka replies) for that toot from mastodon.gamedev.place, I see 2.

If I fetch the descendants from mastodon.social, I get ... a gazillion replies.

I understand why it works like that. It's just not great. Folks on mastodon.gamedev.place miss out on a lot of talk.

I already like this much more than the Mastodon clients I used so far...

The all show replies linearly. I really think that kills discussions.

Happy to have my tree view back for Mastodon replies. And if I really want to participate, I click... "reply".

Well, I guess I can't stop.

My little "feed" reader can now also do YouTube. Uses each channel's RSS feed, so you only get to see the latest and greatest videos from each channel.

All I need for my purposes.

badlogic,
@badlogic@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@eniko in case of the YouTube "source", you don't need any feeds. Just supply the channel names.

I'll update the README.md once I'm done finishing it up.

And now my little Reddit client, which evolved to a Reddit + HN client, has evolved to a Reddit + HN + RSS feeds client. This isn't even its final form...

Spend 3 hours building a read-only, client-side only, browser based Reddit "client". Just for content and comments consumption. Mobile friendly.

Ffmpeg options is the poster child for why you should spend time, effort and money on design.

And I am a fan of ffmpeg.

@Migueldeicaza that's what ChatGPT does for me when I need to ffmpeg my shizzle.

What programming language's reference manual/docs do you think are the best?

Please post links as well and why you think so.

The trick to not working at home at night is to leave your laptop charger at the office. This is doubly effective if you do work at home at night, despite knowing the juice will soon run out. You work so much faster. Triple bonus: you look forward to going to the office the next morning, in the hopes you can reconstruct the 2h worth of mental state you just lost when the machine shut itself down automatically.

Follow me for more life hacks.

It doesn't look like much, but it is mine. Does inference were possible, allows nested "generic" types, etc. pp.

There aren't many "simple" statically typed toy languages with a type checker out there. So maybe this can be of use for others:

https://github.com/badlogic/littlefoot/blob/main/lib/typechecker.ts

Yeah, it's not the prettiest code, but I still think it's mostly easy to follow, comparatively.

And it does a bunch of "advanced" stuff you won't find in compiler text books usually.

What happened to my graphics series? Well. Line rasterization broke me. Then private stuff happened. Then I build a thing to point out hiw grocery stores in Austria fuck everyone and lie on TV. And then I started building the successor to my old Paperbots project. Cause you know, my boy will probably want to at least try programming once some time.

"But Mario, why are you on Twitter still?"

Cause that's an effective way to do activism with minimal resources.

You win some, you lose some.

badlogic,

So maybe, possibly, I'll start posting the programm-y bits here again, and use Twitter for the activism.
