ADHD medication experience Day 4. This morning's dose taken a little late for mundane reasons. While waiting for it to kick in, did a few tasks and found it difficult going. Continued those after brain switched on, and found though I was in a fine working state, I couldn't retrieve memories I should have had from this morning. Fleeting ones after dose were still immediately findable though.

bartreardon,
@bartreardon@aus.social avatar

@NanoRaptor I have days where I forget to take my meds (usually because I'm distracted - go figure). Those days can be rough. If you're that way inclined, and while you have the capacity to organise, it wouldn't be a bad idea to give yourself options to deal with that when needed. I keep spare meds at work but if they run out (because I get distracted and forget to top them up) I have "tasks that I can be more or less comfortably productive with while in a highly distractible state".

It's weird being off meds not being as productive as you could be and not only be acutely aware why but being entirely unable to do anything about it other than watch it all unfold (or not as the case may be). It's like sitting in an idling car but someone removed the gear stick except now you know that most peoples cars come with gear sticks or use automatic transmission and now yours is missing because you have to remember to install it every morning. Frustrating but also validating that you're on the right stuff.

Huzzah to executive function though 🙂.

As I just posted elsewhere online:

“Oh my fucking god is this how thinking should work?!? What the hell. What the fuck. You all didn’t have this all the time did you? And not tell me?”

First adhd medication dose. This is really, really clear.

@NanoRaptor @violator For me the biggest reveal was task paralysis. WTH do you mean people can just start something whenever and not sit there like there's an invisible force field in your way?

@NanoRaptor me in school: getting a's and b's. Reports, "could do better if he applied himself". Me feeling inadequate for not knowing how to do that.

Me 40 years later after getting a pretty conclusive adhd diagnosis: "you motherfuckers"

"Postage will be $14.70. Would you like to pay that on card?"

"It's cool. I have stamps."

Someone actually stuck 81 15c stamps and 75 1c stamps to this letter. And yes, they are all individually attached. Madness.

@decryption with the half arsed attempt to invalidate them, the majority can be re-used as well.

When the postie dropped it off he actually came to the front door and was like "check this shit out".

just had a good solid couple of hours using an apple vision pro to evaluate how we might support it in our org if/when it's released for sale in australia.

initial dot points:

  • visual quality shits on any other headset (our lab as pretty much one of every 3d headset or display that has ever existed....and a robot dog).
  • Camera quality for the AR stuff is decent. blurring when moving my head is quite evident. Reading displays like phone or watch is fine. text on a computer display is unreadable if it's more than arms reach away
  • using remote display from a macbook is A MAZE ING
  • I hate how objects in front of the virtual display show a ghostly outline. I would like to be able to push a window past the bounds of the physical space and have everything in front of it disappear without needing to go to an immersive environment.
    Immersive environments are cool AF. Make more. Sitting on one of the struts of the ISS as it orbits earth while I work would be insane.
  • The immersive videos are unreal.
  • I'm pretty sure I have the blurry eyes problem that @marcoarment talks about. I was using a borrowed device though so only had the one face shield which was sized for someone else.

Final hot take - IMO the soccer video is badly cut together on purpose. Can confirm it's shit, but it's now a solid example of exactly what does not work (better to find out in a 5 minute sample video than an entire 2 hour project). I would totally watch live sports in this thing though.

@bartreardon@aus.social avatar

Some extra points now I've had some time to digest things. File under "things that I didn't take notes on because they were totally a non issue"

Weight was absolutely not a problem. The only time I remembered I was wearing the vision pro was when I took it off.

using the interface with look and pinch was second nature after the first 2-3 minutes. Whoever worked on that nailed it.

the "floating in the air" keyboard is better than you think it is (like, way better)

I didn't give a flying fuck what anyone thought I looked like while using it. I'll have no problem being "that guy" presuming I can afford one for myself or am otherwise granted/gifted one.

    @decryption they live in a drawer with all the other power adapters that will never get used again, except that one time when you're like "I really need a 5W USB A power adapter right now" at which point they will all disappear.

    @decryption a Kia Rio with a 100km battery would suit 100% what I do on a daily basis. a 250km battery with fast charge would meet all but the most edge case travel needs. (and forcing a charge break every 200km which is a good idea in any case)

    the fuck I need a heavy arse and expensive SUV with 500km range in the city for?

    bartreardon,
    @bartreardon@aus.social avatar

    @decryption they shot themselves in the foot by making the first Leaf (and by extension, all the 2nd hand Leafs on the market) ugly AF.

    Someone just release a normal car that happens to have an electric drivetrain that doesn't shout "look at me, I'm an EV. I have a 32" display instead of a normal fucking speedometer"

    bartreardon,
    @bartreardon@aus.social avatar

    @decryption that they do after they realised running headlights all the way up to the windscreen was a questionable design.

    I rant but the mrs wants an SUV because that's what all the ev's on sale look like so that's what we'll probably end up getting despite not needing one for 99% of what we use a car for. 🤷‍♂️
