By far the biggest advantage of Mac hardware these days: low power consumption during idle and light use*.

PSA! 🚨

We are introducing minor compatibility breakage in shaders to bring you an import optimization.

@godotengine I haven’t been this excited for a shader breakage for a while.

bitinn,
@bitinn@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@godotengine but but, how did you do it on OpenGL ES / Android? I thought it wasn’t possible?

bitinn,
@bitinn@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@godotengine ok answering my own question, looks like reverse z is possible on GLES3 but because of [-1,1] z range there isn’t much depth precision to be gained.

Still I think this is better than having no reverse z on OpenGL ES (eg. Unity).

I'm physically well. I just don see much future. I can't make Godot work as i need, My pc takes almost an hour to open an unreal project and unity... is unity.

I use godot because is very light. My pc cant handle much more.

They denied my disability again this year, so in general futures seems very dark.

I been trying to be positive, but truth is that being poor and disable is almost a guarantee to keep being poor and disabled.

bitinn,
@bitinn@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@samf @YoSoyFreeman same, I am going to say it will feel a lot better if you can release something and reach an audience that enjoy your game (go charge for it, even).

For most people, it would be their first impression with your games, keep trying with new audience, you will get there.

(If you want to work on something more defined and get payed for the time being, there should be no shortage of remote gamedev gigs.)

Hot take:

Not nearly enough farming games on Steam for macOS.

And hear me out, macOS users are like the prime victims of white-collar job exploitation, most of us just want to live on a farm virtually as an escape.

It is a good business :)

bitinn,
@bitinn@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

Also don't worry about the real farms and villages competing with you. Most macOS users won't go anywhere near farming tools, as that will be too exhausting.

Do you think there is a silent war going on between walled gardens where each data scraping team is trying to automate scraping of other platform’s copyrighted data, disregarding any TOS?

I think there is🌝

Still waiting for a LLM model that is trained on public domain text only: it will have all the knowledge from 1800s but have no idea how mobile phone works.

We should be able to replace the Supreme Court judges with this model quite easily.

Free market in ideology: consumers can pick the best phone, social network, health care and education that fit their own needs.

Free market in practice: consumers can pick the least shitty phone, social network, health care and education if they can afford them.

What Mastodon did in their announcement of a US non-profit is a PR disaster.

If you are still arguing people don’t get how open source work or people are entitled to free support, you are reading the negative responses very wrong.

If Mastodon needs legal expertise to make them viable as tax-deductible in the US to make up for the lost of Germany non-profit status, they should say so at the front, not as some addendums in the latter passage.

@bitinn@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

More importantly, the blog post show a lack of understanding on why mastodon continues to be so resilient.

No, it is not the decentralized protocol alone. It is people having a fundamental distrust of centralized + venture backed services, coming together to keep these instances alive.

You don’t go about posting a board of directors without explaining why: 1. they are so important in your missions that such a board is needed, 2. they bring unique assets that cannot be replaced by others.

bitinn,
@bitinn@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

Anyway, if I don’t care about fediverse I wouldn’t be on here. There are enough centralized services with great content to keep my free time occupied already.

The reason I am on here: is to prove fediverse works and I for one will support it.

All in all, if the Mastodon non-profit board of directors is like the OpenAI board of directors (see how they ended up in recent news), I want to know who are in the driver seat at the end of the day.

Finally someone had make a good desktop idle game for macOS, and yes it can run as a sidebar.

Domain name registrars are something you rarely want to think about. And when you have to think about them, it is because your own provider have gone very mad.

.com renewal price at $23.99 with gandi
wikipedia states Gandi had been acquired twice in the past 5 years.
a pie chart of commonly suggested domain name registrars, gandi is slipping to 5%, top recommends are Cloudflare, namecheap and porkbun.

Our world is set up in a way that, a few heads of engineering in the top companies can decide they want to care a bit less about user experience and a bit more about other metrics, then the snowball of this decision will cause billions of users to have much less useful softwares/services in 3-5 years.

Fun.
