I wrote how 7 variations of blockquote mark-up is announced across 6 screen readers:
https://adrianroselli.com/2023/07/blockquotes-in-screen-readers.html

• No videos (yet?).
• My Ubuntu VM pooped, so no Orca yet.

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@aardrian What's the "broke the vm so this is delayed" thing about ff/orca? Both of those are seriously out of date and this makes it look like Orca reads.. Nothing, but Orca reads blockquotes in both Firefox and Chromium, and also has "quick key" support for block quotes so you can jump among them.

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@aardrian It definitely did not. Its easy to miss/missunderstand... Having orca: "" after each definitely seems like the result is "" rather than "i was unable to collect data for this" imo

@aardrian For you :)

you could divide the web up into eras of choices that sites all glommed into that made that made them worse. There was the "literally popup", and then the pseudo-popup, the spray it with moar ads, and so on.. have y'all noticed this one increasing where you click a link to go to a video, and there's like, a whole page of shit, a big scroll bar, but right at the top center is a video.... But it's not the video. The video is there, down the page, somewhere. Grr.. Seeing it more and more

I found out about the X thing purely because people here keep talking about it (the irony of this toot is not lost on me) - a lesson for next time this happens: Just don't talk about it. Ignore it. This is what they want.

If you don't know about it, don't worry about it, nothing important.

Here is your little "this should be a blog post but I'm exhausted" thread for today: A website theme mode toggle can be a seizure risk. https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/three-flashes-or-below-threshold.html

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@eric I'm a little confused by this. I am looking at this in elk using dark mode. If I click your profile, and then your link, it takes me to your page which is just a page - but it's all light. Is that different?

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@eric It's not mastodon, I'm just using it as an example - but for all of the web's history you can be on website A which has a black background and white text and click a link to website B which has a white background and black text. How would that differ fundamentally from the same website switching theme?

Is there a reason i get like a bajillion ads on YouTube for things related to guns? Holsters, glasses, vests. Is it like that for everyone or is it based on something i watched? Honestly can't think of anything that implies I'd be interested in that stuff.

I recently moved from Spotify to Apple Music. My apple account is so old that there’s a lot of gunk on it from my teens. Anyway, it always irks me that when I scroll through the “album” view there’s all of these “partial albums” if you will. Essentially I bought like one song from the album; I feel like it doesn’t belong in the album view; that should only be complete albums. So I want to fix that.
