Anyone knows what, if anything, that’s holding back the Web Share Target API from Safari and Firefox? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Manifest/share_target

I would love to be able to install a bookmark manager as a PWA and easily share to it.

Right now I would need to do quite some juggling with Apple Shortcuts to get a similar functionality

Maybe one of @jensimmons, @tomayac, @paul knows?

@voxpelli @jensimmons @tomayac @paul I expect it's mainly just priorities.. It's still work to make it standard, integrate specs, etc. and WebKit is "neutral" on it, for example https://webkit.org/standards-positions/#position-11 .. there's just way more stuff than there is people and funding all around

@callionica @voxpelli @jensimmons @tomayac @paul

My statement is true of all engines/browsers and standards in general. Everything ultimately has to be prioritized. Ultimately every team has budgets and limits, and none of them can prioritize everything.

It feels like kind of a problem that companies attempt to organize on a planet-wide scale, but protections, etc don't

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@dginev It does, but "companies do” adds something extra spicy

Is it normal for Google / Chromium to assign a bug report to the reporter?

Someone with a google-dot-com email address assigned it to me but I have no idea what that means.

Like, do I work for Google now? Is that how it happens?

@aardrian Congrats, you're hired!

I got a fur baby. They say he’s 7-8 weeks, but I’m suspicious. He’s doing great here, but he’s tiny.

@kizu Hmm, yeah - tricky. idk, you decide :)

The perks of my dad being friends with a family whose business is growing in Vallauris.

From when I was little I recall they occasionally gave us big eggs from their geese and I wasn’t exactly sure what they actually did for a living 😀

@koalie Does it smell amazing there?

@jed Maybe those belong to herb, but they're bad at apostrophes. 😋

We’ve always told devs that browsers prioritize what to implement based on dev demand.

There is one exception: .

SVG is used on >65% of websites. Yet, browsers have been refusing to work on SVG, ignoring pressure and pain points from web devs.

showed SVG as the top content pain point: https://2023.stateofhtml.com/en-US/features/content/#content_pain_points

Tons of work (SVG 2, fill & stroke, and more) has sat unimplemented for years. At this point, in standards circles, we know not to touch SVG with a barge pole.

Was looking for on old graph I had made 20 years ago about how tests can pass and the same time not having interop (one of the points of @bkardell recent post https://bkardell.com/blog/WPT-Dashboard.html ), but I could not find it (Eventually I will), but funny I found this about head elements used in body circa 2007 :D https://www.w3.org/2007/05/dom-head-body

@karlcow It's a shame that screenshots link is broken
😔 so much slow link rot. Wish we'd prioritized and figured out some kind of CID distributed hash idea much earlier in our history..

Assuming the premise that us CSS developers aren't reaching for container queries as much as well all thought we would is true...

Why do you think that is?

bkardell,
@bkardell@toot.cafe avatar

@chriscoyier @potch @Meyerweb I think there are numerous things here! It would require a thread, or a blog post, or a podcast episode... How would you prefer? :)
