A thing that I truly do not enjoy about apparently cishetsexual relationships is how often I've found myself saying “do you have any movies with women in them?”

blue,
@blue@autistics.life avatar

@Cassandra it's crazy how many older movies and considered "classics" do not contain women or just the one woman having a womanly role. Recently I watched The Abyss, a whole nautic horror movie about a man getting his divorced wife back by nearly dying.

I’ve been alone my whole life.

All I’ve ever known is being alone.

But the autistic community gave me a sense of belonging and a place where I fit in.

I know how awful it feels to be unloved and uncared for, and as autistics, the world can make us feel that way.

All I’ve ever wanted is to do my best to create a sense of community and bring fellow autistics together. And the fact I’m doing that is a dream come true.

So I’m glad we have each other.

I am truly grateful.

@ashleyspencer you also give as a place where we fit 🥰 I love having an international community of autistic people.

Just watched "Swiss Army Man". I'm not that into fart jokes, which was a main thing in the movie. But the rest of the movie was actually quite ok. A guy strands on an island where he discovers a kind of magical corpse and tries to find a way home with him. Their journey is absurd and funny, definitely a very crwative movie script by the Daniels (they also made "Everything Everywhere All at Once").

@blue@autistics.life avatar

@Cassandra I read before about the fart stuff and almost didn't watch the film because it sounded like a 90s buddy.
I liked both actors very much, they did a great job!

We wanted to play "Trade On Tigris" from our Pile of Shame so that we could sell it. But then we really liked it 😂 I don't usually like games where you have to trade with other players, but this game was fun and entertaining 😊 So it can stay and will be played again.

@Cassandra yes. This game was bought in 2018...

Currently watching Shameless where (lacking) health insurance in the USA is a huge thing. People having to pay amounts like 60.000 $ or more to survive, it's so horrible. I tried researching what kind of (public) health insurances there are but it's very confusing. I'm paying 300€/Month, a certain % of my income, and mostly everything is covered (complex dental stuff and glasses are not, this sucks).

blue,
@blue@autistics.life avatar

Of course there are many countries with worse health insurance than in the EU but I grew up with the notion that the USA is a golden better world than ours. Nowadays I am even unsure if I would go over there for vacation for safety reasons (well don't have the money anyway but I want to see NY and New England).

I'm stuck with two books. Both are from the library. I have to give back the audiobook in two days, so this is gonna be a speedrun. Good that borrowing books comes with this pressure to finish on time 😄
(Iron Flame and House of Sky and Breath, I kind of enjoy the worlds but the plot is going way too slow for my taste)

blue,
@blue@autistics.life avatar

@Cassandra haha yeah, I had that with audiobooks. Luckily you can postpone your hold for a bit.

Still not comfortable/used to this "new" social media situation since the Downfall of Twitter. I miss Twitter, especially the circles feature. Mastodon still feels either clumsy or too much, and certainly not like the tidbit-thingy that Twitter was to me. Mastodon feels more like a microblogging platform where every post has to have some "essence". On Twitter I posted a lot of pics, I don't do it here because of alt-text, I don't have spoons to give good alt-text for every pic. (1/2)

blue,
@blue@autistics.life avatar

It's the same with Bluesky and posting pictures. Bluesky is more casual which I like. But it gets the annoying things Twitter had like rage and quarrels (but maybe it's related to my mostly German follows).
There is Instagram, my fav social media right now. It has pictures and good, positive content. I just miss the occasional interaction that I had with Twitter. So nothing quite satisfying, but I'm mostly stuck with Insta so far. Don't know what to do with the other accounts. (2/2)

I got to play Scythe today, with four very smart men.

I randomly drew the Togawa faction, which moves very slowly (boo) but can walk to the factory (yay).

This faction also has traps. I usually play a very peaceful game, but I do enjoy the chaos of traps.

I decided to walk to the factory and set a trap and hunker down until the end.

I decided which trap to set.

Here is where the second-guessing occurred.

@blue@autistics.life avatar

@Cassandra it's very interesting that your opponents tried to attack the factory. I wouldn't have bothered with it and would try to get points on any other objectives. I never thought of the factory being important to win the game. How did your game turn out in the end?

I warned the bakery staff I was taking photos of plushies. They thought it was so cute.

This lady at the coffee shop was like “Omg those are so cute!!” Told her about the stores and Facebook page. She was like “Omg you sell those?? How much??” Told her the prices said I have business cards and she was like, “Yes give me one.” lol so gave her my card.

Coffee shop said to leave business cards here on the tables if I want to. I’ll make some different ones for that.

I finished "Neuroqueer Heresies", a collection of essays by Nick Walker. I cannot identify with labels that much but I like the idea of "neuroqueering" as an act "with the aim of reclaiming one’s capacity to give more full expression to one’s uniquely weird potentials and inclinations."

I also liked that Nick defines broadly, applying it to anyone who struggles within the neuronormative society.
You can read some of her essays on her website: https://neuroqueer.com/essays/

blue,

@Cassandra yes I wouldn't use it as label either, but I certainly see myself neuroqueering through the world 😄

Trakt says that I watched 513 hours of tv shows this year. It seems quite a lot with this being almost 21 days. But I don't regret anything 😎

blue,
@blue@autistics.life avatar

@Cassandra well, one should compare it with the spare time I have and then it's about 17% of my time. Still not that much because of the few days where I don't get to watch anything.

I finished a tv mini series ("Lessons in Chemistry") where the female character and her 7 year old-ish daughter were both autistically coded. It was so wholesome to see their relationship. The daughter was not reprimanded for being direct. They talked a lot about science or books and had a loving and caring relationship (no refrigerator mom klischee).
The father seemed AuDHD to me, btw.
It was really nice to see their social relationships being depicted so positively.

@Cassandra You should! I'm really not a fan of Apple but their streaming service has currently the best shows, in my opinion. For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Morning Show, Silo, Servant, Bad Sisters, Foundation, Patchinko...

My conversion rate and number of sales has dropped significantly since I raised prices a couple of days ago. People got used to me only charging $1.50 to $3.60 more than I was spending to fulfill the order on stim toys and stim jewelry. I made more money from the $4 shipping than the item sold on almost every order.

On the other side, I’d have to sell 12 Ultimate Gear Fidget Spinners to equal the profit I made off one sale of that item with the raised prices.

blue,
@blue@autistics.life avatar

@samantha @ashleyspencer I agree with Samantha. Its common here in Germany for small shops to have free shipping within a range of 40-80€.

The Uber driver who took me home from my postal box is an entrepreneur with an autistic son.

He asked if I was just getting off work and I said I work for myself I have 3 online stores. He asked me questions about e-commerce and told me he’s also an entrepreneur and has start and sold multiple businesses. When I told him my oldest store is an autistic store, he said his son is autistic.

All of this led to me talking his ear off about Autistic Bookshop lol. I gave him a good tip.
