Currently re-reading Robin Hobb's Farseer Books (The Realm of the Elderlings). I started reading the series in 2003, the series finished in 2017.
So I kind of grew up with the characters, it is different compared to binge-reading a series in a short time. Now I am revisiting the books and the characters, Fitz and my beloved Fool just being young children, not having endured all the trauma yet. Let's see if the books will still be so magical to me 20 years later 😃 #books#Bookstodon
Had a nice Snack & Play, in the "easy going boardgames"-Edition.
We played Fantasy Realms, Qwixx, Quacksalber and Hey, That's My Fish, to cool down from the hot weather 🐧 #Brettspiele#Boardgames
Finally played Expeditions (the thematic sequel to Scythe) 😊 It's not as intuitive as Scythe and I was a bit confused by the card management and where to trigger the actions. But once into the game, I liked it. Quick to play (60-90min), awesome artwork and a lot of possibilities to combine your cards. Hope to play it soon again. #Boardgames#Brettspiel
Today we tried Qwirkle for the first time, what a nice game. I love the bag that the travel edition comes with 😄 Then my first time playing Cartographers Heroes with other players, way more fun than playing alone. And of course as a finisher the Clever variants 😄 #Boardgames#Brettspiele
Just watched "Swiss Army Man". I'm not that into fart jokes, which was a main thing in the movie. But the rest of the movie was actually quite ok. A guy strands on an island where he discovers a kind of magical corpse and tries to find a way home with him. Their journey is absurd and funny, definitely a very crwative movie script by the Daniels (they also made "Everything Everywhere All at Once").
@blue Ah, I hadn't realized that was the Daniels. I remember thinking it would have been sufficiently creative without the fart stuff, but I know I'm offside popular humour on that one.
(Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano are both such excellent weirdos.)
@Cassandra I read before about the fart stuff and almost didn't watch the film because it sounded like a 90s buddy.
I liked both actors very much, they did a great job!
We wanted to play "Trade On Tigris" from our Pile of Shame so that we could sell it. But then we really liked it 😂 I don't usually like games where you have to trade with other players, but this game was fun and entertaining 😊 So it can stay and will be played again. #boardgames#Brettspiele
Currently watching Shameless where (lacking) health insurance in the USA is a huge thing. People having to pay amounts like 60.000 $ or more to survive, it's so horrible. I tried researching what kind of (public) health insurances there are but it's very confusing. I'm paying 300€/Month, a certain % of my income, and mostly everything is covered (complex dental stuff and glasses are not, this sucks).
Of course there are many countries with worse health insurance than in the EU but I grew up with the notion that the USA is a golden better world than ours. Nowadays I am even unsure if I would go over there for vacation for safety reasons (well don't have the money anyway but I want to see NY and New England).
I'm stuck with two books. Both are from the library. I have to give back the audiobook in two days, so this is gonna be a speedrun. Good that borrowing books comes with this pressure to finish on time 😄
(Iron Flame and House of Sky and Breath, I kind of enjoy the worlds but the plot is going way too slow for my taste) #Bookstodon#Books
Still not comfortable/used to this "new" social media situation since the Downfall of Twitter. I miss Twitter, especially the circles feature. Mastodon still feels either clumsy or too much, and certainly not like the tidbit-thingy that Twitter was to me. Mastodon feels more like a microblogging platform where every post has to have some "essence". On Twitter I posted a lot of pics, I don't do it here because of alt-text, I don't have spoons to give good alt-text for every pic. (1/2)
It's the same with Bluesky and posting pictures. Bluesky is more casual which I like. But it gets the annoying things Twitter had like rage and quarrels (but maybe it's related to my mostly German follows).
There is Instagram, my fav social media right now. It has pictures and good, positive content. I just miss the occasional interaction that I had with Twitter. So nothing quite satisfying, but I'm mostly stuck with Insta so far. Don't know what to do with the other accounts. (2/2)
@blue I’m on all of the ones you mentioned. I never post to Bluesky and have 4 followers lol. Trying to learn how to use my Instagram and Facebook pages more. I’m still on Twitter and post every day. Mastodon is the only social media where I’m a person first before being a business. Everywhere else I’m a brand.
I finished "Neuroqueer Heresies", a collection of essays by Nick Walker. I cannot identify with labels that much but I like the idea of "neuroqueering" as an act "with the aim of reclaiming one’s capacity to give more full expression to one’s uniquely weird potentials and inclinations."
I also liked that Nick defines #Neurodivergence broadly, applying it to anyone who struggles within the neuronormative society.
You can read some of her essays on her website: https://neuroqueer.com/essays/
It's this time of the year, Carnival.... love it or hate it, I'm with the last option 😅 But at least we get a day off from work on Monday and I have some nice plans with boardgames, an art exhibition and some tasty Berliners (the pastry, not the people).
"A perfect balance of opposed and equal neuro-divergence."
So, I'm reading a scifi book where a type of animal evolved to surviving only as pairs. One of the pair a detail-seeking one, "the recognizer". The other the treat-seeking one, the "problem solver". Alien-Animals as Autism-ADHD pairs 😄
The author has an autistic son, so I guess that he may have thought about human neurodivergence when writing this.
It's from "Children of Memory" by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
I've been living in Cologne for 11 years now. It has never snowed that much since then. The dogs are so happy and enjoy their playtime in the snow very much 🥰 And I don't have to be afraid of ruthless people on bikes nearly running over them. #dogsofmastodon#dogs
