otoh i do think the gaza stuff really is too much this time though. we already have a weird left-right querfront over gaza.

in any case, all of these topics are of no day to day importance to most people in the west. covid, gaza, the "climate catastrophe", ukraine war, etc. have either no relevance or aren't actionable in any way for the common people in the west.

yet they are highly divisive and people are willing to throw away any social capital they have over these things.

Not a fan of Sean Tilley, and the article has several glaring errors, but I’m glad someone else agrees with me on the Fediverse not being the Utopia many made it out to be. It is the most toxic place I’ve ever been on the Internet. The only reason I’m still around is that there’s good people too, most of them not on Mastodon.

Have you ever had the sensation of hunger turn into a sneeze.

A day or two ago i had that happen and it was so weird. My stomach was empty and got that really uncomfortable feeling where it sucks up into itself and makes you feel physical discomfort. Then it jsut turned into a sneeze and went away, weirdest thing.

REST does not make any sense for HTTP APIs. A request is just data: encode it in the request, use the request path as the name of the operation you are performing, the end. Same thing for responses. Forget about nested routes, query strings, path variables… They just make your life more complicated and do not bring anything to the table.

I've been using this model for multiple HTTP APIs and I only regret I did not realize that sooner. BTW I'm not alone, see the AWS API or the Telegram one.

Also makes writing API clients magnitude order easier.

Interesting fact of the day. While solar panels do generate some energy from visible light the overwhelming majority is in fact int he infrared part of the spectrum. In fact its peak is well within the infrared but has a black-body like curve.

Since solar panels are essentially just LEDs designed to have maximum surface area this works in both directions. If you apply a voltage to solar panels they will visibly glow in infrared light.

because they can. especially cargo bikes are a lifestyle product for rich people now - electric bikes not exclusively, i see many tradesmen here using them to go to work. they aren't crazy expensive anymore though.

the people i see using cargo bikes are to more than 90% bored rich parents who use them to transport their kids to childcare. people just love the eco-larp: transporting kids does also work with a 400€ trailer.

i bought a used radonneur bike with steel frame years back and that does work fine. i don't bike that much though. i wouldn't want to have to buy a new bike now though, the market is totally broken.

i think the only way to have a sane solid cargo bike for a sane price is building your own but that is much work. i am kind if interested in learning to weld though :)

the concept of "cargo bike" is fine, it's only that the ones currently sold are the equivalent of a porsche cayenne. they look fancy, but will likely fold in half if you load a washing machine.

now, if those bikes for multiple thousand euros would be bespoke and hand-made the price would be fine.

they aren't though. they are made in the same factories other bikes are, the material clearly doesn't cost that much more. it seems it's the welding that has gone wrong with the bike in question, this smells like cutting costs at every corner. welding bike frames is a solved problem as is designing bikes with appropriate reserves. i think there even is free software to design bike frames correctly.

there just are enough people willing to pay premium for a lifestyle object.

regarding bags: bags like the attached image are quite common here. they are hooked onto the rack and are pretty robust and waterproof.

Update: As many have pointed out, you can use @thunderbird as an RSS feed reader, and there are many #firefox add-ons to restore the RSS indicator (one of which I'm already using). But my point is that Firefox needs to lean into RSS as an answer to all the crap that is the modern web, and help educate users about it
