I find that one great use for LLMs is for something a bit like rubber duck debugging, but for any topic.

You ask the LLM for its thoughts on a topic and respond. The LLM probably has no real insights to give you, since these things necessarily live in the world of cliché, but the process can help you to clarify your thoughts.

Then you can talk with a thoughtful and intelligent person to find the real errors in your thinking.

Elon Musk’s new chatbot Grok will have real-time access to Twitter, making it the most u̶p̶-̶t̶o̶-̶d̶a̶t̶e̶ Nazi LLM out there.

@fox It’s simply heartbreaking. I’m so ashamed of my country.

Well, I have installed and looked at Threads. It very cleverly combines elements of Instagram and elements of Twitter, making something far worse than either.

I am completely convinced that AR-style extended reality is the thing that can someday replace desktop computing for a lot of people, if it is not hobbled by poor management and ecosystem decisions before it gets there. Keep your physical keyboard and trackpad, but virtualize your monitors and your macOS environment. If Apple's headset really is on a path, however many years away, towards becoming traditional glasses, this all seems inevitable. Perhaps eventually you won't even need the glasses

@stroughtonsmith It would be disappointing if it simply reproduced the macOS interface, though. There’s something really bizarre about the idea of simulating a screen that was originally made to simulate a physical desk. I think the thing would be to bring back physical, spatial metaphors — but with all the potential that AR has.

One thing I particularly like about Rust — which I’m very new to — is how thoughtfully the compiler errors and warnings have been designed. It not only diagnoses and explains the problem: it provides a possible solution. Genius.

This is the essence of good design: it’s compassionate, anticipating the needs and wants of another person. I can’t think of another language that does anything like this. Certainly not Swift, not that I’m bitter.
