As a young fella just getting into in the late eighties my first impressions of David Sanborn were that he was corny and overly smooth, in an unhip bag I didn't dig with guys like Metheny and the Breckers. Then he blew my fucking mind with the Night Music show and I've respected him ever since. There was almost no really cool weird music on TV in 1988-90 except that show, and man, Night was legit!!! Nick Cave, Bongwater, Pere Ubu, Miles Davis...

Convince me that this lineup is worth $250

@Rosey @brucy I actually really like Keller, but it still seems a bit steep imo. If anything I might just go Sunday depending on the schedule

@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @Rosey @brucy I've never met him but I've seen him a bunch and he does seem like a nice guy as far as I can tell

@rowjimmy @mrcompletely @Rosey @brucy I enjoy his sense of humor and agree that he's a good songwriter

I'm not going back (mostly because it doesn't exist anymore), but I kind of miss Twitter sometimes.

@chris@shakedown.social avatar

Maybe I just need to find some new people to follow, but I feel like things have sort of lost momentum around here.

chris,
@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@andrewnorthrocks I was hopeful more people would find their way over here, but yep...it is what it is

chris,
@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@andrewnorthrocks I definitely like it here better than Threads or Bluesky I just wish it was a little more lively here sometimes

chris,
@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@gmr_leon yeah, maybe I just need to reply more

chris,
@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@kingbillygoosephish @andrewnorthrocks hmm 🤔, I'll try to think of something

#Phish Sphere #Ranked

Music
N1
<gap>
N2

Loved S1 last night but S2 was pretty up and down. And overall last night just doesn’t have the firepower of N1

Visuals
N2
<big gap>
N1

Ranking the visuals from the couch is akin to ranking restaurant dishes from Instagram photos. Still, seemed like they used the Sphere better last night than N1. Given that these are planned shows, N1 wasn’t a learning experience. So assume N3 will be better than N2 and N4 > N3.

@Nolasox @maxellxlii90 @mrcompletely @chopaganda was it simply a "jam vehicle" dad joke?

Shabazz Palaces - Exotic Birds of Prey (album)

Yes it's Bey Day but make room for the latest from smoked out Seattle hiphop project Shabazz Palaces on Sub Pop. SP is led by Ishmael Butler, fka Butterfly of Digable Planets. Every Shabazz album is a fully realized avant future funk Mood and this one seems great so far

Hard to wrap my head around Billy not just playing arenas but doing multi-night stands.

chris,
@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@chopaganda Joel or Strings?

chris,
@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@chopaganda but seriously I mean he's good but I don't think he's that good. Also bluegrass in an arena sounds not ideal.

chris,
@chris@shakedown.social avatar

@mrcompletely @chopaganda I guess I should say he's not good enough for me to want to see him in an arena, but to be fair I don't think any bluegrass musician is. That's to say I don't think certain types of music translate that well to arenas, at least for me anyway

Youssou N'Dour - Shakin' the Tree (live)

if you've only heard the Peter Gabriel version check this out. The original is on a Youssou album (The Lion, it's a good one) which does have Gabriel vocals but they're mixed way further back than in the version that was a US hit. I think that original with both of them is my favorite but this one's a trip with Youssou way at the top of his insane range

@mrcompletely I've only heard the String Cheese Incident version 😬
