omg, I am -finally- getting around to listening to Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States". And it seems NOW might be a particularly good time to read or listen to it if you haven't done so.

I am also tired of articles with titles like

"Is The US Sleepwalking Into

<insert any disaster 10s if not hundreds of millions of people have been first pointing out then screaming about for years>"

in case anyone is wondering...

People may not know the specifics of all or any of the dozens of financial scams being perpetrated to enrich the rich, but the general outlines have been known for decades by many of us. Don't call it sleepwalking.

I deleted Twitter months ago, so researching this myself isn't happening.

But can anyone name accounts who were actively sounding the alarm about Jan 6 AHEAD of time? @_L1vY_ it seems like you were one of them who was saying "Might wanna listen to these folks"?

The only really -big- account I can remember is Sarah Kendzior, who isn't here. It seemed the folks who were sounding the alarm generally did not have huge accounts, but like in the less than 5-10k realm.

Just curious

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

@Eka_FOOF_A @_L1vY_ yeah I remember several as well, but -I think- part of the reason I can't remember their names is because they -weren't- big accounts… but thanks for confirming there were numerous accounts saying "this is pretty worrying"

AOC's questioning of Michael Cohen -directly- led to Trump getting indicted, and on the hook for 355mil dollars….yet not much publicity for her in major corporately owned news groups, who seem to keep breathlessly amplifying stories that help that the aforementioned fascist.

Interview is on the long side, but good. She's says we (the US, and congress) need to go after SCOTUS.

As you wish, ma'am.

Police surveillance technology that the Police Department is seeking seems good on the surface and is touted as taking the bias out of police work. But it is an underregulated industry and there is little unbiased data on how effective it is. https://www.nashvillescene.com/news/coverstory/nashville-police-surveillance-power/article_047730ce-d4fc-11ee-9b72-53b8f73d4e82.html

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

@RealJournalism worked for many years in a jurisdiction that was heavily invested in restorative justice… "surveillance" technologies don't create safe cities or help people live good lives.

Good jobs, good education, safe recreational opportunities, and caring positive regard for people helps create safer communities. We've known this for decades. The exact opposite of surveillance states, really.

It's the emotional stuntedness of power hungry people that creates these dystopias

I abide by ethical laws that serve to promote the common good.

But blind adherence to "rule of law" is stupid.

Because obviously, laws can be and are written by corrupt people to serve special interests rather than the common good.

If I could get one thing changed it -might- be how US "justice" is based on legal concepts that are outdated, adversarial, and focus way too much on the supposed "rational" valuing of interests, rather than unapologetically doing no harm to people and the planet.

after 9/11 those who found Bush's "retaliation" actions worth protesting were really pretty successfully painted as traitorous know nothings, endangering the world… people lost jobs over opposition to war then, too, ya know

Might be worth thinking about if you're beginning to fall for the idea that any criticism of a guy 9 months away from a selection is traitorous or too dangerous.

Edited for typos that auto wrong keeps making-😂 🙄

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

OBVIOUSLY: Biden is not Bush (thank god), but there's a real pattern for folks to get nervous about dissent when they feel endangered.

The. folks. who. run. wars. know. this. and exploit it

They work hard to update and improve propaganda techniques to be convincing and manage public perceptions-

IOW: if you don't think there really are quite a number of folks out there supporting the idea that "dissent is traitorous," due to -coordinated actions- you might want to rethink that stance.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

If you think MIC arms dealers are gonna be running Tokyo Rose level propaganda techniques from 75 years ago -that we can all spot from a mile away -ya might want to rethink that.

Bluntly put: we need to remember these are people who -maximize- profit when there is large scale violence going on.

Despite how horrid this is, they have been successful af in hanging onto and gaining power via manipulation since WWII

They exist and they are working hard to get you to buy into certain ideas.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

A huge part of a good offense is a great defense. So they know their audiences. No good propagandist is gonna come to 'liberal types" and say

war is good!

they say "it's terrible but necessary", to you and me.

Then they attack folks who disagree that it's "necessary"

They quash dissent, they block free speech…they demonize folks who disagree as crazy, or stupid, or traitors. They hope to get NORMAL PEOPLE TO START DOING THESE THINGS FOR THEM AS WELL- does any of this sound familiar?

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

IOW: the social worker down the street who works with normal humans struggling to be okay during trying times, and strongly believes Biden -could- do more to support a healthy planet is not your enemy.

The folks (covertly working for fucking war mongers) and demonizing that social worker and the millions of other normal people who ARE trying speak out…maybe you might want to consider if they are as great as advertised.

Why is SCOTUS doing this? THEY'RE CORRUPT, that's why.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

@log @StillIRise1963 Some are just mercenary, but I think Coney Barrett is a true believer, for sure. She was hating on gays long before it made her money.

and…frankly that's part of the problem we normal people are dealing with.

These corrupt slimeballs are skilled in understanding who are the best folks to co-opt,

so they buy both other corrupt slimeballs AND GET AND KEEP ENOUGH useful idiots on board to keep the momentum going in the directions they want.

US centered:

the histories of virtually all social justice movements are incomplete unless the histories of covert and overt interference by "intelligence" communities, local law enforcement and government officials are included.

Obviously there have been government officials standing with social justice movements, and times when law enforcement collectively behaved professionally.

But I have NEVER heard of any covert -support- by "intelligence" groups.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

I mean yeah they do some work to take down hate groups…engaging in ILLEGAL acts…(aka pursuing stuff in their stated job descriptions) but the KKK is still around, the proud idiots have become a thing that plenty of normal people could see developing,

But groups like the Black Panthers (who fed kids free breakfasts) were purposefully blown to bits by our govt as well as by bigots. And somebody sure tried long and hard to smear groups like Greenpeace and NARAL and NOW

I'm really not much into revenge…

I'd rather just have them -not exist- and never have to waste time dealing with them.

I can easily imagine a better world where abusive people and dominator mindsets just don't exist.

real argument right now:

...problems in society today predate capitalism by thousands of years. Capitalism didn't create greed.

real answer:
emotionally stunted folks allowed greed to motivate them.

And cultures…that are not very emotionally developed …allowed those folks rise to power.

It's is the lack of emotional development in people -that is ACTIVELY discouraged by patriarchy and militaries everywhere that is closer to the root problem, IMO.

how do you think that will go over?

    there is no bottom for this guy. She worked for Turning Point!

    IMO Turning Point itself should be labeled a hate group.

    But I suspect the millions of dollars in "mysterious" funding they get

    buys them enough spineless lawyers who work hard to keep this designation from happening.

    I have a pretty chatty internal monologue going most the time

    But there's a color matching game on my phone that I play much better without any dialog. It took a while to figure this out, but now I can quiet my narrator and just use some other discernment to match the colors. I can't describe the discernment, but it works.

    maybe it's like playing an instrument, at first you think about what you're doing, but eventually becomes automatic?
