My data's out there. I've gotten more than a half dozen letters including more than one from financial institutions, and one from my main medical organization, informing me of data breeches in the past few years…yet I have to do 2 factor bullshit every time I go to look up the amount of my gas bill?

wondering if the big -self proclaimed- progressive accounts on this site will even mention how "Dem" challengers to progressives are a real and really bad thing…(I'm talking about "Dems" who take money from PACS funded by regressive megadonors).

I have plenty of doubts that they will…and if they don't….are they just clueless? or are they just following orders to not mention certain things on their platforms?

Riane Eisler: “Partnership and Domination Systems”

By Nate Hagens, originally published by The Great Simplification March 27, 2024

"...What we value at the individual and family level directly translates to the way we frame our governance systems – societies that emphasize empathy and caring also implement the same types of policies and values. How could we foster the more cooperative side of our humanity across all scales to create empowered communities and balanced decision making? What societies – past and present – lean towards a partnership paradigm and what benefits do their people receive? Is it possible to move away from violence and control oriented systems and into ones that value wide boundaries of empathy and understand the vital nature of care work?"

They had me at "chaos theory" which is the last item in the show's table of contents, at 1:06:03 if you're curious, lol.

@shekinahcancook thanks for the link. It is as a huge fan that I laughed in a couple of places when the host valiantly kept trying to get a 93 yo scholar to be specific about what Partnership Societies would look like. From my perspective: policies valuing the well being of people/planet far more than profits, and use of compassion based decision making would be widespread. Because of this: extreme poverty and war machines wouldn't exist, violence would rare, etc. IOW: Basic progressive values.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

@shekinahcancook yup, I didn't see it that way in the video initially, but you're quite likely right. And it's certainly a very specific value for a Partnership orientation.

I worked for years in MH in what's called a "High Fidelity" Wraparound format (which vigorously believes in that highly individualized/localized approach) and we had really good success directly because of this

I'm what many people would call an optimist, but I don't subscribe to an unrealistic view of the world, what I try to look for is the root of reality. I think truly evil people are a very small part of the world, they are unfortunately the kind of people who seek power, and their goal is to turn people against each other. After disasters, people tend to come together, they donate food, water, money, blood, and time, but something always sets in, the Elite hate when people organize, and remember they control the media. After Katrina, suddenly there were reports of gangs roaming in the Thunderdome, people being raped and murdered, the reality is that never happened, people formed gangs, but to help each other, making sure women were protected, that children got food, and people got medicine. What happened was suddenly upper-class people got worried about their stuff and grabbed guns, a similar thing happened in Ferguson, saying people were "breaking" into their neighborhoods. Yes, there are people with bad motives who want to hurt you, but mostly those people are the elites. Tragedy moves towards Socialism, and they will literally make stuff up to stop this.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

@RickiTarr co sign. To me a major problem is, apparently millions of people really still don't understand that they do control -all- large (corporately owned) media groups. And that yes, they will regularly lie or omit things, and start wars (Iraq anyone?) to keep their riches coming and their places on the tops of the dung heaps they create.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

@RickiTarr yeah, but OTOH it really is difficult to tell how many people still buy what is being sold…because large media groups keep hammering away with stories about what four people in some rural Ohio diner think…all while millions of people who only want peace and equity and support for the common good get described very differently, or in -many- cases are not given much coverage at all.

The impulse to engage in colonialism itself is a HUGE clue and KEY to understanding why we are so messed up in so many places around the world.

Hubris, privilege, good luck, and being short on personal understanding of how indoctrinated we are in cultural norms that JUST AREN'T HEALTHY keep far too many people from understanding that their wild success in incredibly rigged systems are -not- due to their superior judgement.

techbros are capitalist settler colonialists, but yt liberals run . they embrace Threads and Iguanazi because that's white privilege: always getting the benefit of the doubt. until they become just another colonized body. then whatever is left of them will cry into the void, but nobody saw this coming. because, you know, the Blacks and other racialized peoples are those nobodies who saw it coming. this is why we can't have nice things: you bash, not federate, the fash.

person gives response to user about concerns of a huge and demonstrably amoral corp monetizing off mastodon and possibly contributing bots trolls…(at the least) and killing it off (at the hypothetical worst)

That person's response is: I think Mastodon should be able to withstand this.

Now imagine you live in a nice quiet neighborhood and a developer wants to come in and put a commercial district right next door.

So the folks already living there should just "be able to withstand this"?

what is it with people so conditioned to see growth as always 1) inevitable, 2) not disruptive 3) always good?

I mean look around: growth is obviously problematic in many many many situations.

But that's not how we've been conditioned to think about growth.

Before you block me, consider: Western Civilization's worst impulses -have been- a history of folks listening primarily to other folks who look and think like them, and being satisfied with rationalizations that serve their points of view.

All accomplished while blocking or angrily dismissing input from all Others.

IOW: a good therapist would invite you to wonder why my comment made -you- ...so upset.

That's all, carry on.

Imagine some individuals in a species staying so stunted they "tHinK' that being able to use violence to "win" will somehow make for a better or more peaceful world.

And they expect all of the species share this world view.

Further imagine that this myth (violence leads to peace) persists largely because these individuals only listen to other (depraved) folks like them "as experts".

Short term benefits convince them they are right!!

Like the short term benefits of crack cocaine.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

in geologic time, 50,000 years is a blink of an eye, you depraved ignoramuses.

A much wiser species would not only notice the harms being perpetrated (most of us did).

But due to hubris, far too many moderately privileged folks, didn't disempower people who were quite obviously (to the rest of us) not fit leaders.

Many of us have known who the real depraved assholes for a long fucking time. But the most privileged didn't listen. These assholes are still protecting the wrong folks.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

Obviously this applies to RWNJ, and stunted people who oppress due to their religious or otherwise twisted beliefs.

But it also applies to millions of people who simply didn't care enough when it wasn't -them- being oppressed.

Yes, I understand you/we were unaware/brainwashed then.

So do better, a lot better NOW.

A good place to start is to STFU and actually listen to and support people who have -always- been correct in their assessments.

Hint: They -often- won't have white penises

last boost: There are tons of health problems in many parts of rural New Mexico that exist only because of "business as usual". It doesn't often make national news, but I know several people with heart breaking stories they live with and/or have witnessed.

From the land being used for all sorts of poisonous military exercises, to various kinds of mining, the human and environmental costs have been and still remain horrible, because protections were wholly inadequate.

I mean it's the 21st century, and not only is it still perfectly legal to create weapons of destruction, the entire industry still has incredible levels of power, despite literally billions of peace loving plebes catching on to the industry's utter ghoulishness

The investment in US politicians in both parties keep delivering, they keep rubber stamping huge amounts of $$ every year. 1/2

I rarely make a comment more than once about a book I am reading/listening to, but for the second time: NOW is a fantastic time to read Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the US" for so many current reasons.

If you are a liberal, read it to understand: how easily really ugly things get rationalized.

If you are a leftie, read it to understand how much gaslighting is -and has always been- a huge part of the containment strategy of how the ultra wealthy stay in power.

BREAKING: Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) signs a bill banning the open carry of near polling places.

It is now illegal in New Mexico to openly possess a firearm within 100 feet of a polling place and 50 feet of a drop box.

cjpaloma,
@cjpaloma@mas.to avatar

@binaryequation @GottaLaff if you see any behavior that has no place at precincts, find the precinct judge for the site (or whatever they're called in your area), and complain loudly. If the precinct judge shrugs, get their name, get some evidence, and complain to the county elections and/or to voter rights orgs in your state.

Many will do the right thing if they know what's going on, or if they are pushed. And if they won't, they should not be precinct judges.

These are local people.
