I have been programming since I was 12 (born in '73 #genx), currently enjoy coding in #Rust. I use Linux every day; I prefer open to closed. I try to live and let live when it comes to people's tech choices.

I work in tech but am learning how better to separate that from my passion for programming.

I used to podcast, I plan to again soon.

I practice #zazen, #qigong, and #taichi every day.

I started today with a longer sit to meditate.

I think that really helped me get through a lot of challenges like my anxiety about crowds that the metro almost always triggers and the social anxiety that arose from meeting so many new to me coworkers.

I think I will have another long sit before bedtime and then again first thing tomorrow. I really enjoyed how it supercharged my equanimity today.

I had a pretty good day .

I enjoyed meeting so many of my new coworkers in person. My social anxiety was present but manageable. I did not have time for a full sit this afternoon but was able to sneak in a round of qi gong that was almost as helpful.

The dinner and social outing after was more enjoyable than past similar activities thanks to my new, deeper equanimity.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am on the DC metro for the first time in over a year #today. I am working in office for a few days for $dayjob. I feel a little anxious but managing not to attach to it thanks to a longer than usual sit this morning. #zazen

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

My cerebral weather was a little rougher this morning. My equanimity saw me through and I will spend some more time on and off the stool processing.

I have some preparation for a three day $dayjob planning summit at our HQ in DC that starts tomorrow. Otherwise I expect the day to be quiet as most of my colleagues are traveling.

The effect of a longer sit makes a certain sense. I already feel something like a refresh or recharge after each session. It is almost like adding momentum to spin back up a flywheel. There is an increase in energy, for lack of a better word.

I guess why it hadn't occurred to me to extend any specific session is that the relationship between my meditation and equanimity has not been this direct. My experience of equanimity only shifted after a year and a half of daily practice.

I'm watching the MoviePass documentary.

I am fascinated and also angered as I am seeing what was done to the original founders.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am enjoying a slow start to my morning before starting work on weekly chores.

I may get around to the writing I was thinking about working on yesterday. Maybe I will focus on simply getting an outline sketched out then see what else I have the appetite for.

My next set arrived. I've been enjoying X-Men '97. I read much of the comics the original series drew on. It's been fun watching this season that's after I stopped reading the comics.

I blame @punkrockvader for bringing the #LEGO minifig series to my attention while he was looking for a goat.

Along with the X-Men set, a six pack from series 26 space arrived. Retro space heroine is definitely my favorite.

I did more software archeology and was able to validate my findings in the code with my first peers, the other principal engineers. I am grateful for these peers, I have not had any at my level of responsibility in a few years. So far, this is a solid group of pros and I also enjoy their company. I look forward to seeing them all in person next week.

I started this book, Old Zen Master, a while ago, before the recent developments with my equanimity.

The stories resonate more deeply now, especially the light hearted humor. I think I will finishing reading it through then read it again as a daily reader. Each story is only a few pages long and self contained.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am celebrating the end of another week with tea by the fire and a little more time reading.

A couple priority meetings have invaded my $dayjob agenda on No Meeting Friday. They are related to an on site gathering in downtown DC next week. Neither should be a very heavy lift.

Otherwise my day should be a pleasant one full of reading, researching, and thinking then kicking off the weekend.

The fire in question. Second morning I took a picture of it and forgot to attach it to my morning post.

And now the fire has burned down to coals. Time to get on with the rest of my day.

I spent today mostly reading code for $dayjob, another repo I need to understand for my project. I thought I had developed some pretty tough mental calluses to the anti-patterns and misapplications of design patterns. The callouses, they did nothing. My equanimity helped me more.

Parts of my project could be simple enough. Other requirements will either have to be punted pending some intense discussion or could drastically expand my project's scope.

    Good morning and TZAG, friends.

started a little rough, my second pint last night was a double IPA. I found myself wanting a pale ale, specifically something old school with a more crisp, bitter finish. That beer was the closest on offer.

I still managed to get out for a very good run this morning and feel almost back to rights.

I am hoping for a quiet day to get some reading, thinking, and further technical design work done for my $dayjob project.

I had a fantastic time tonight at my usual haunt, Saints Row Brewing. Turns out combining that experience with my newfound deeper equanimity enriched my enjoyment considerably. I was uncertain that would be the case.

has been a good day to practice my growing equanimity.

I had a couple of opportunities (construction snarls, critical but well intended $dayjob feedback) to practice my awareness and alignment. I definitely felt better in the moment, like my responses were better chosen than in the past, and no lingering attachment to negative feelings after.

That construction this morning alone would have had me grumbling most of the day only one week ago.

    Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am starting with tea and reading by a cozy fire out on our patio.

I have an overdue eye exam later this morning. I am hoping to find some focus after to make more progress on my new $dayjob project.

I also feel overdue for a social outing. I plan to visit my favorite local tap room towards the end of my day.

I maintained my equanimity pretty well . Not perfectly but well enough. Even found some helpful humor. Otherwise my day was full of $dayjob busy-ness.

No luck on a sun break but I did enjoy a scenic drive on the cross county toll road to get this week's CSA share. I enjoy the chance to open up my little sports coupe more than my usual route allows. The usual hot spot often takes longer to sit through than the rest of the return trip.
