Did you know that HTML has a translate attribute? You can prevent browsers from automatically translating labels and other text elements by setting it to "no".

HTMx is the first library that excites me in a long time. Instead of replacing HTML and HTTP it augments it and makes it dead easy to build apps with semantic value. Just like jQuery started before it became too dependent on itself

When designing a product page for a store it is always good to try German if you want to stress test your layouts for text overflow. Many people want a Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher without getting horizontal scrollbars.

I just added a "share on mastodon" link to christianheilmann.com. Shame it doesn't work without JavaScript as I need to learn what instance you are on. That's why the first time I ask for it and then store it in local storage. I can write it up, but it's super straight forward.

It is pretty annoying that if you set up your OS to reduce animation the Bing Chat interface still animates all over the place.

The software developer credo: why do the same task a few times when you can spend 5 hours failing to automate it?

One frustrating thing to still see is talks and articles that claim using HTML means being accessible. And that accessibility means "it works without JavaScript". Neither is true. You can create pointless, hard to navigate HTML and you can use JS to make things more acccessibe.

JumpCut is a really cool little tool. It keeps a history of your copy and paste commands and you can access them either by mouse or with the Ctrl+Option+V keyboard shortcut.

It does my head in that in JavaScript, a binary to decimal conversion is a parseInt, a Math method, but a decimal to binary conversion is a String method.

The Verge’s new way to display news item links is a terrible idea https://christianheilmann.com/2023/08/14/the-verges-new-way-to-display-news-item-links-is-a-terrible-idea/
Visually impaired users relying on quick access to links only get a bunch of them stating "link". Can we stop re-inventing things that work?

I don't know what is more bonkers: thinking that this was a good idea or all the people in the thread (including the maintainers) defending it as a Hindu Swastik and thus being OK to show.
Regardless of this being malice or being clueless, it's wrong and I did report it.
