Kicked poetry from my startproject template, added just and uv for a better DX.

Fixed my PSF membership. I still find the portal rather confusing even though it is a simple page.

Switched my little project django-tailwind-cli to uv, flit and nox. I like the simpler tooling and its speed. It also feels like a better fit for this little library than poetry.

@codepo8 it is turning more and more into Facebook. 🤷‍♂️

Modding Vivaldi

On my way to have a super slick UI, I removed some of the address bar buttons, that I don't use. It is tricky, but doable.

On Vivaldi

I switched to Vivaldi as my main browser after using Safari for years. Read how I did my setup and what I like and what not.

I'm living confusing world, I want to use for most things, but there is still a few profiles I need the for.

Now the big problem is how do I associate the default browser? I'm thinking of making my own CLI application as the default browser, it would then open certain links in Chrome and the rest in Firefox.

oliverandrich,
@oliverandrich@fosstodon.org avatar

@Ciantic which operating system are you using? On macOS i use Choosy exactly for this. https://choosy.app

I'm going through various AI coding helpers for a few months now. I want to keep an open mind and understand if there's something really mind-blowingly helpful. But so far, I haven't found anything that is more than "nice to have". I think it's also a lot about the tasks that we need to solve at @getkirby Coding speed is never really an issue. That's why I don't massively profit from autocompletion help. The obstacles are always conceptual questions. Did you find anything indispensable for you?

oliverandrich,
@oliverandrich@fosstodon.org avatar

@bastianallgeier @getkirby I share the same experience and feelings about all the coding helpers. They are nice, but not worth the effort into training them. But I agree with you, the problems we have to solve are not “coding speed” but conceptual tasks.

Do I want to learn how to develop a browser extension? Or should I just write some apple script and start it with a shortcut to automate a browser task?

oliverandrich,
@oliverandrich@fosstodon.org avatar

I go with a python script for the moment. Learning how to build a browser extension requires to much time than I have to spare at the moment.

Two 6-hour train trips later, I am convinced that I want to switch to Vivaldi full-time. I think, I tweaked everything in a way, that I truly enjoy the browsing experience.

Hooked up Vivaldi, Mail and Todoist using @KeyboardMaestro. Productive again.

oliverandrich,
@oliverandrich@fosstodon.org avatar

@justincroser @KeyboardMaestro well, it works for me for years now. I can't complain. I can even use a trackpad, a mouse and a track ball. Just what fits me in a given situation. And keyboard maestro is always part of my system.

I took the inspiration from @webology blog post and besides a nicely configured Firefox, I now have a nice Vivaldi too. Feels good. The new memory manager is awesome.

I just had to disable some of the special parts of vivaldi, change a lot of keybindings and remeber, that the Kagi extension doesn't work well in Vivaldi. You have to configure Kagi manually.

EchoFeed by @robb is a wonderful service. If you want to cross post in any direction, it just works. And Robb is so kind to fix a bug on a Sunday which mentioned today.

@robb And EchoFeed is so smart to translate mentions and references into a format, that in this case people on bsky can use.

🤔 Friends, I hate to say this with fresh layoffs happening, but you are about to see how much "Big Tech ❤️s Open Source" after years of exploiting our work.

>$100 billion in cash reserves and record quarterly profits going back a decade doesn't provide even an ounce of job safety, job security, or even loyalty for the employees and projects who got them there.

If you believe otherwise and work for one of these companies, I hope you are mentally and financially ready for what is to come.

oliverandrich,
@oliverandrich@fosstodon.org avatar

@webology go for it. I left google services completely behind some years ago. It feels so good.

oliverandrich,
@oliverandrich@fosstodon.org avatar

@webology @tcurdt I was in the very same position years ago, and had to move accounts away from google because I have used my gmail address every. After a few weeks I was so fed up with it that I simply deleted the gmail account. The important accounts have been moved to my personal domain and the rest... well, in case I need one again, I signed up for a new account.

oliverandrich,
@oliverandrich@fosstodon.org avatar

@tcurdt @webology I switched to a personal domain and moved all my mails to mailbox.org. Since then I have moved at least 4 times again and now I am using Apples Mail service, cause it is easior for my wife. But I can now move easily without losing anything. For personal cloud storage we use Apple and a hosted NextCloud for contracts and stuff. But neither me or my wife are collectors. I think we use 400 GB Storage for all our personal data max. Not counting code repositories of course. :)
