@coth@social.creatureofthehill.com

Come to realise there are several distinct souls living in this corporeal form. A plural system, currently composed of five of us, anyone else turns up, they get to sort everything while the rest of us take a break for a bit.

Artist, wanderer, fixer, maker, activist, trans..
Always a creature of the hill.

(plural: they/them singular: she/her)

Located in the North of Scotland
Old enough to probably know better 😜

Actually autistic, and now suitably acknowledged/pathologised by the NHS.

Nice that she could walk away...
For Scottish Trans people, we take all that shit and don't get the choice to leave it behind.

Not surprised.
At a human level, we understand and don't blame her.

But fucking hell, the naivety of thinking that would help. Ceding ground to transphobes, who celebrated her downfall as a victory and justification for their methods, only generated more abuse.
Abuse directed at those who cannot walk away.
Not to mention the creep of all kinds of bigotry into Scottish parliamentary and news discourse.

Well done Ross Greer.
There is a reason we are now a member of the Scottish Greens.

This is the way to call out someone like Forbes, not for her religious views, but for how she manifests them.
The nasty types will use her Christianity to excuse her regressive beliefs, and Greer being a devout Christian himself exposes that for what it is. :progress_pride:

Listened to BBC Radio 5 report on the Tory latest plans for PIP.
The two presenters talked about rising PIP applicants, how it had gone up in the last few years, by X number per month.

They discussed cost implications, political aspects etc...

At NO POINT did either of them discuss or raise WHY a greater number of people are being disabled.
Disabled enough to go through one of the most humiliating and difficult processes to access this payment, often having to take it to tribunal to achieve it.

Some world class willful fucking ignorance there :blobcat_thisisfine:

Fuck the complicity of the client journalists that empower the shitty ableist political forces.
Obviously fuck the Tories, but also Labour who will do the same but pretend to be more efficient at it :disabled_knife:

Anyone out there have recommendations for beginner tai chi videos online?

Classes in person would be ideal, but this is for someone hypermobile with fibromyalgia (and some other issues), that cannot access classes easily at the moment.

So, videos that are clear and simple. Especially as chronic pain can cause brain fog, so clarity is key.

They are keen to try, having been recommended slow movements, so they can keep mobile without causing any extra pain by over exerting/extending.

We know strength training, stretching, yoga etc... But have no experience in Tai Chi, so assessing a good example from a bad is tricky.

Any suggestions that narrows our search gratefully received 👍

Pager Lives Again Thanks to Python And Mastodon

https://hackaday.com/2024/03/04/pager-lives-again-thanks-to-python-and-mastodon/

Pagers were a big deal for a while there, even if they never quite made it into the pantheon of excellent sitcom plot devices like answering machines did. Anyway, [Finnley Dolfin] had some pagers and gave them a refresh for the modern era, using them to receive message alerts from Mastodon.

The project is laced together with a bunch of Python code. It uses the Mastodon library for interacting with the social media website. When it detects an incoming direct message, it hooks into DAPNET – the Decentralized Amateur Paging Network. Via this network, a message is sent out over the airwaves to [Finnley’s] pager, serving as a notification that someone’s reached out to chat on Mastodon

No shade on ActivityPub but would love to read more articles on how smart people would architect distributed social networks. I know some of that is happening but I'm just not reading or finding enough of it.

Just having lunch.

Then we will find out, as is traditional, how much we have to take off the tree to fit it in the house.

They always look smaller when foraging them in the wild :blobcatlaugh:

Bonus points for our wife who made us jump back and forth across the burn many times. as we walked along it comparing potential trees 😆
Of course, the one we picked was the opposite side of the water to the truck :blobcatlaugh:

OK, so we moved across from Misskey :misskey: to Calckey :calckey: without seemingly breaking too much. Though time will tell on that front 😆
Partly to play, partly because Fedilab will be hopefully supporting Calckey, partly a language thing...

We even backed up our DB like a grown up and everything before the switch 😜

coth,

@athairbirb
At the moment, a few minutes into it running, pretty similar to Misskey which we like 😆 Some colours have changed, icons etc, and it still works with the Milktea app.
However, not having to translate from Japanese to understand release notes and bug fixes, or figure it out from the code, is a non-trivial improvement 👍

coth,

@athairbirb
Tusky - no.
Currently the only app is Milktea, which is OK but not great. The web/mobile interface is great though.

Fedilab looks like it is going to support Calckey though
