For the life of me, I will never figure out why the 86 trams coming from Docklands on Wednesday afternoons are so full. I board at the third stop in Docklands and the seats are mostly taken by then. This one is packed! Who are these people?

@timrichards Very good question!

Anybody got a view on good Windows DVR software these days? Preferably open source, to work with an old Elgato/EyeTV USB stick.
I previously used NextPVR. Seems mostly reliable but the old version I used to use had a confusing interface.
All I want is live TV (broadcast signal) viewing and recording. I don't really want media library management and the other bells and whistles that sometimes get packed into these things.

Which is the worst Melbourne tram, and why is it the C-class?

@timrichards I reckon the D class gives the C a run for their money. Especially those weird seats over the wheel arches.

Ten years ago this month the new (now current) rail map draft was released into the wild. It took a few revisions, but eventually it replaced the old (horrible) one.

Can they really do nothing about the endless phone spam/scams?

The tactiles (including yellow line) at some stations are a shocker. This is Malvern.

This is my first time on the new Vlocity train to Albury. The seat reservations have their pluses and minuses; I chose a forward-facing seat in a set of four, so that's good.

I miss first class though, nice to have some extra space. Next time I assume I could make use of the $10.60 fare cap and buy two tix next to or across from each other?

@timrichards I can see why they've pushed towards DMUs (Diesel Multiple Units, eg not loco hauled), but It's kind of a shame they've decided to standardise absolutely everything, including removing 1st class. Given how badly they staff the buffets, I'm sure they'd prefer not to have those either.
I guess you could book multiple seats, though it's probably not good etiquette given how crowded some services get - especially on weekends.

The asbestos problem is awful, and needs to be fixed asap - and other parks checked. But I also wonder if anybody thought about air quality (engine fumes and tyre particulates) given the park is next to one of ’s busiest freeways.

Great for transport nerds, or anybody who loves cities ( specifically) - a quick review of Julian O'Shea's Show. In short: very funny; go see it!

But I am surprised (and a bit disappointed) by the people on Twitter who see this happening and decide to stay. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2024/mar/19/elon-musk-replies-x-twitter-martin-sellner-far-right-identitarian-movement-christchurch-terrorist-attack

    One of the most common emails I get is people offering me blog content, eg paid posts.

    This is despite this text just below my contact email address on the site:

    "Are you offering me pre-written/sponsored blog articles or paid link placements? Please don’t bother. I’m not interested. I won’t reply."

    Usually a few days after the email me, they email again asking why I haven't replied.🤷‍♂️

    @decryption @jpm That's what I did when my old gas central heater conked out -- all part of my grand scheme to migrate off gas. I got MHI units (didn't realise they were the most efficient) and they've been good.

    danielbowen,
    @danielbowen@mastodon.social avatar

    @decryption @jpm I did it in 2020. I don't recall any rebates for that at the time.
    Ah, looking at the blog I wrote about it a while later, I'd chosen MHI after reading Choice reviews.
    I also ended up getting Sensibo units for them, which has been great. https://danielbowen.com/2021/05/11/greening-my-house-the-next-chapter/

    This is good. It’s time to stop imposing the cost of parking on those who don’t want it or need it. The market can figure out where it’s actually warranted.
    Of course councils need to properly manage street parking, and governments need to keep improving walking, cycling and public transport options. https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/no-park-no-problem-car-space-rules-could-be-ditched-in-areas-with-good-public-transport-20240312-p5fbua.html - ping @PaulBarter

    This shop in West Melbourne stands out among the Victorian-era architecture. From the 1940s or so, perhaps? #Melbourne

    @timrichards I checked Trove, wondering if there might have been a fire or something that prompted a renovation. Couldn’t find anything, other than in the 1930s it was a real estate agent. Perhaps they just wanted to modernise?
