An OPML feed list of the top 100 music chart for whoever needs it:

https://stats.podcastindex.org/v4vmusic.opml

Updated every hour when the HTML chart updates. This OPML uses the podcast namespace to get access to some tags and special element attributes needed.

Apps should be able to import this feed list if they support OPML import.

Doing a 90 day run on the Music Top 100. The last 90 day run took 6 hours.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@awoodsnet The last 90. The 90 day run builds a historical stats file that subsequent 7-day sliding window runs can pull in for showing more complete numbers.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@awoodsnet I realize that's confusing.

Basically, the 90 just needs to be done once. Then the 7 day run adds to that history file going forward.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@awoodsnet Might end up doing that. I’m trying to avoid needing a database for this but it may just be too hard to avoid. ☹️

Shouldn't my ATP member management page look like this?

Currently I can't give you more than $8 per month. Don't make it cheaper or more paywalled, just make paying you more easier. For every 1000 people that will only pay you $8, there are 50 that will pay you $80, and 1 that will pay you $800.

I'm so close to having this music chart functional. Looks good on desktop. Looks bad on mobile because media queries. 😡

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@awoodsnet Desktop first then scale down. One day I’m going to learn my lesson and just sit down and put a boilerplate together.

The adoption of the Medium Music tag continues its August acceleration. To recap:

Feeds with the Medium Music tag gained an average of 20 per week during the month of July. The rate more than doubled to 47 per week between August 1st to 17th. Last week, the rate almost doubled again to 85 per week.

Feeds with Medium Music will hit 800 today, which is amazing considering that it was only 85 on May 1st.

@ronploof Wow that’s a fast uptick. This is great data Ron. Thanks so much for compiling it. ❤️

@ronploof That could be from where @cisene found a big stash of Peertube servers a few weeks ago.

Substack is currently blocking Overcast.

It looks accidental, via Cloudflare misconfiguration. I'm trying to get in touch with them.

I cannot stress enough to podcast hosting companies: DO NOT HOST PODCAST FEEDS BEHIND CLOUDFLARE!

If you do, you MUST create a Cloudflare rule that changes the "Security Level" to “Essentially Off" for all feed URLs. Otherwise, if you host many feeds (especially per-member feeds), most podcast apps will be throttled or blocked from accessing them.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@overcastfm Are you getting 403’d or js challenged? I noticed 403’s starting some time over the weekend that may be an ASN block on Linode/Akamai from them.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@overcastfm I'm familiar with that issue. But, I started getting 403's over the weekend on requests to a Substack HTML document from a completely unrelated VM on Linode/Akamai. It's not related to the Podcast Index agg farm at all and is actually on a separate Linode account with basically zero traffic. It's a Read Me Later type archiving VM that makes about 1 request per week or so to Substack as I stash articles I read.

That's why I suspected that they've blocked Linode's ASN mistakenly.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@overcastfm I'm getting 403'd on a simple WGET request to substack HTML url's from Linode. The same request works fine from an AWS based VM.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@overcastfm And, yes, Podcast Index aggregators are getting 403'd on every substack RSS feed as well. I'll try to ping them on Twitter.

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@overcastfm Yes! 5x5 on my side now. Did they give an explanation?

@thurrott At least somebody is saying it out loud. Social media "view counts" and "impressions" are like yogurt nutrition labels. You just make up whatever you want:

Shows with large episode counts going 404. It's enough to be a real trend. Can't say how big a trend. But it is a trend.

IPFS data (principally for @adam @dave @cameron ) for my Aug 3 Podnews Daily...

OP3 reports 1,636 downloads of the MP3 file. But, how many downloads did I see on my own filehost? Just 15.

I published at 9:19 that day. Wget is the IPFS filecatcher useragent (for now).

The PodcastAddict ones are before any IPFS service has grabbed the file - probably an unforseen effect of Podping causing a race condition between the two?

dave,
@dave@podcastindex.social avatar

@james @adam @cameron That’s impressive. I have PND pinned on mine. I’m not sure how to see the stats of how many episodes I’ve served.
