This is how giant tech thinks. All of the podcasters they signed and then ruined (when they weren't renewed) were just an experiment to get their pricing and business strategy right. You were collateral damage.

The problem with hand-waving freakoutery is that it's easy to say that something is a nothingburger with a slice of innocuous cheese on top.

Like this "chrome wants to ban adblockers" story. The defense might be "oh, it's just a tool for establishing trust and has nothing to do with adblocker-blocking or DRM".

But such new tech isn't just a tool. Technology has a direction, too. A destination it will steadily progress toward. That technological direction needs to be accounted for. Carefully.

...so our aggregators mark it as dead automatically since we receive complaints from hosting companies if we don't honor that tag.

But...

Apple themselves don't honor their own block tag:

Related: It strikes me that the #Fedvierse makes it much more straightforward to do something like this, using https://podcastindex.org as the "main" source of publicly available content, adding in "exclusive" content (if you want), and then customizing the listener experience to cater to whatever niche your servicing.
