It's 2023, and still does not provide real-time updates on bus status

"The DOT also plans to continue improvements for bus service, including upgraded bus stops around the state that include better lighting, seating and real time updates on each bus’ status."

lack of access to information has never been the main problem

the ability to filter it from the sea of irrelevance, and occasional blobs of floating sewage, is what's in short supply

That essay was on the informal recommended reading list for new researchers when I joined Haskins Laboratories in 2002

Honestly, I don't remember much about it. Maybe it's worth re-reading

metaphors in computing have grown stale, so to replace "everything is a file," I am proud to present "everything is config"

this new devops-pilled metaphor asserts that all software has already been written and all that remains is to configure exactly how the bits interact.

the only programming language is, in fact, yaml.

On a swing through during his 1860 campaign for President, Abraham Lincoln voiced opposition to the expansion of slavery. This was a politically expedient compromise with his personal abhorrence of the institution. He was less shy in his full-throated support of unions and the right for labor to organize.

Well, I updated to 21.1 and the cinnamon/mint menu became v slow and laggy

Turns out that somewhere along the line the screen reader was turned on and I didn't notice because I keep volume muted

turning off screen reader fixed menu responsiveness

If you find that paper interesting, you may be interested in reading studies on another controversial forum, 4chan. Here are some links

For non-economists, I’m referring to a paper that will be released soon on a forum called EconJobMarketRumors. It allows anonymous posting, so you can imagine the type of posts that get written. The paper leaked and is quite interesting from a technical perspective.

So, I was just reading a techish blog post. The details don't matter, but it contains the following sentence

"What it does can be summarized in a sentence:"

The summary sentence that follows is 64 words long and contains 8 commas.

The fact that something "can be summarized in a sentence" doesn't mean it should be....

Up until about 20 years ago, many shoreline towns restricted beach access to town residents

Then the state supreme court ruled that policy illegal

20 years later, compliance with the spirit of that ruling is still sketchy in some towns

DEEP's interpretation of the word

"8. a tract of land where birds and wildlife, especially those hunted for sport, can breed and take refuge in safety from hunters."
