@jon @smveerman I’m reading this on board of one of those twice-a-day direct TGVs, on the Perpignan-Figueres high speed line, and looking at how crowded this off-season train is, I think that triple the capacity would still be profitable. Bring in the competition!

And in other news, I have now written 5500 words of my explainer about rivals to Eurostar, and I am still not done

My aim: to write a general, explain-all piece that can be used as a yardstick to assess all the industry-PR-framed-as-journalism about rivals to Eurostar in the future

It’ll cover everything - routes, capacity, stations, passport controls, security checks, rolling stock, potential operators…

Done tomorrow, maybe, all being well 🙂

I just heard an interesting thought in a podcast. Extreme climate action (i.e. blocking streets, destroying art, etc.) is often seen as a radical act that might destroy support for climate action in the center of society. But it also moves more peaceful climate action (i.e. Fridays For Future) further into the center.

This can only be truly evaluated in hindsight. But it's still something that made me think differently about the role of such protests.

Personally, I don’t consider peaceful protesting while blocking a street as extreme but YMMV.

@bastianallgeier Sadly, too often indeed. As a positive example in The Netherlands, where XR is blocking a freeway to make the government adhere to European law and stop subsidizing fossil fuels, there is a hardcore group doing the blockade and a growing group of sympathetic protesters outside the blocking area normalizing the blockade, without the risk involved in the blocking itself.

🏥 What should've been a weekend with nice parties with friends turned out to an emergency visit to the hospital. I had an acute pancreatitis and had to be hospitalized. I am fine now. Waiting to be transferred from Breda to Utrecht hospital.

@jon @JonnyT Speaking from experience in prioritizing complex items, making this a team effort helps enormously. So instead of trying to figuring it out on your own, you could lean on your large community of experts to estimate impact and effort required and make it a co-creation thing. It is often a huge motivator.

DB excelling as normal with the ICE 317 Bruxelles-Frankfurt

We're 17 mins late at Aachen (because we crawled from Liège) and there was no explanation. People will have missed their connections, as I also will shortly in Köln

All passengers are also going to have to change onto another train in Köln (as per DB Navigator) as this ICE set will not continue to Frankfurt, and that hasn’t been communicated either

Sure, things go wrong, but how about keeping passengers informed?
