The number of people who don't get this joke is insane. It's about 15% of comments on the video right now.

I do not understand how anybody could think I'm serious here, but I've clearly overestimated the average YouTuber.

This actually really annoys me.

I want to be able to make silly jokes, and I don't want them to have to be spelled out and obvious. That ruins them.

I now understand why big YouTubers water down everything to the point of being homogeneous slop.

@notjustbikes about the suggestion to disable comments: I usually enjoy the Youtube comments. This is probably after moderation and in the "popular" order - not "latest". I scrolled far down and could not find a "dumb" comment.

Freiburg im Breisgau is a great city. It has a pedestrianized city centre, lots of trams, and more bikes than cars! It's the model that all European cities should be following.

@notjustbikes once Freiburg was envied for the warm weather. With climate change the number of hot days has already gone up. I have friends there and they find summer a bit stressing.

Nevertheless a really nice city! Worth noting is the 30 km/h speed limit on a residential stretch of the multi-lane main highway B31. It feels so slow because the road was designed for faster speeds.

I've made a very rough map of every street in Amsterdam that will be changing to 30km/h on December 8th.

The lines in green are changing from 50km/h to 30km/h.

Are there any surprises here for you?

I was surprised by Rooseveltlaan, for example. It's quite wide today!

I'm going to get out to film the "before" case this week (and hopefully livestream the ride, too!)

@notjustbikes I'm surprised there are so many 50 km/h streets to begin with. In Germany/Baden-Württemberg every residential street which is no main street is 30 km/h and sometimes walking speed. Approximately half of the main streets are less than 50 km/h because of noise/pollution. When driving a main road I always double check if 50 km/is allowed, if in doubt I drive 30.

@DarthPutinKGB Pictured is Command and Conquer 1 Tibrarian Dawn. A GDI (yellow) Base has been partly captured by the terroristjNOD (red) including a barrack. There are some lighweight units but none of them are "advanced" which is the joke.

There are a bunch of comments under my latest video saying that the "decorative rocks" are really hostile infrastructure meant to deter homeless people.

They're not. Look at how much space is here, despite the rocks (enough for a dozen bicycles).

If anything these rocks provide shelter and make it easier to sleep here.

Examples of hostile architecture are very rare in the Netherlands.

I think these responses are mostly from Americans who are used to having hostile infrastructure everywhere.

I have serious issues with YouTube comments: they are used to spread so much misinformation and lies.

For example, for my latest video, many people have said that I am lying about emergency vehicles being able to go through the knip. Even though I literally SHOW FOOTAGE of emergency vehicles going through the knip.

This is a common lie being told about the project online.

But here's the problem ... 🧵

@notjustbikes I usually enjoy the comment section of Youtube because it usually gives some fresh aspects about the topic from around the world and also often affirms the thoughts I had about the video. Would be a shame to lose it. I seldomly see negative comments on urbanist channels, perhaps the algorithm likes me ;)
