I know I can always count on the NodeJS community to name a tool:

n

It’s just the letter “n.”

Come on, folks, really? I’ve been searching for hours to figure out what created a ~/.n directory, only to find it’s a tool named “n.” How do you expect me to search for that?

@ramsey It‘s like being on a social platform named only one letter …

It's really great that I can use Paypal to pay for orders in onlineshops (great in terms of convenience...)

But it would be even better when those f*cktards that implement the paypal payment gateway would keep the email-address that I entered in the order process and not replace it with something they can get from Paypal.

Either do not ask me for an email address or use the email-address I had to enter in your payment process!

@dkreuer@toot.metasyntactical.com avatar

@heiglandreas The email address (aka Account) used to pay with PayPal is by no means the email address of the buyer. Only a token assigned with the payer.

My wife frequently uses my credit card. Same situation.

I start seeing technical debt everywhere.

Whether that is an "I'll do the laundry later" at home, a "we'll do the refactoring in the next sprint" or "Transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade, so as to achieve net zero by 2050 in keeping with the science;" in global politics:

It's cuting a corner now to fix it later.

Without adding the added cost of fixing it later into the descission making.

dkreuer,
@dkreuer@toot.metasyntactical.com avatar

@heiglandreas @MaybeFrederick The term „technical dept“ is wrong in the first place. @sternentagebuch once explained it to me sth. like that: For a banker dept is future profit. So it’s profit after all. Better to say „missed future opportunity“ (sth. like that) which emphasizes the potential loss more.

So for dinner we had a Gratin...

Which we realized is just a fancy word for "Chop the stuff we have left in the fridge, mix, pour cheese over and put it in the oven"... 🙈

Good news! .zip and .mov are now TLDs, not just file extensions! So mentioning archive.zip in chat may now link to a phishing site or something.

Wait no, that's bad news...

Me: Replies to email inline
Them: Try to reply to my email inline as well ... using Microsoft Outlook....

No citation indentation, signature before content of email, in essence on first sight an email consisting of "Dear Mr. Heigl - Kind regards"

Required a phone call to realize that they replied inline - underneath the signature (where the papertrail starts).

Thank you Microsoft for killing email

dkreuer,
@dkreuer@toot.metasyntactical.com avatar

@heiglandreas @aishasie I guess that not unnecessary paper trail is soecond in wasted data transfer but „reply to all“ mails when not needed ….

Hey folks.

What's your thoughts on vs ? I'm looking for a PHP CMS that isn't WordPress based on a potential client's request. Prefer based so that's why these 2.

Mostly a brochure site with some normal CMS-y features (gallery, contact form, etc).

Bonus for ease of ongoing maintenance.

dkreuer,
@dkreuer@toot.metasyntactical.com avatar

@syntaxseed did you consider https://sulu.io ? It’s Symfony based. I used it a while back and it was fairly easy to use. Uses PHPCR under the hood and was very flexible back then.
