drascus,

I always think it’s interesting when I read these stories. No matter how bad it gets. No matter how many red flags are raised no one is going to do a single thing. Our governments are completely failing us by doing nothing useful.

drascus,

disappointed is an interesting choice of words. But I guess not having a roving hellscape is kind of boring.

drascus,

It seems like the only people left on reddit will be jerks and trolls which is fine by me. You are in the right place ignore the haters.

drascus,

In any case I'm glad you are here instead of there and I'm sure what you do will be appreciated by this community.

drascus,

Well if your funding dries up and the only way you can figure out how to make money is by being terrible then it's time to die.

growth of lemmy stats?

Is there stats somewhere that show how much the fediverse or lemmy have grown over a certain period of time? I find it interesting that though these platforms do seem relatively popular ( especially recently ) That the number of posts in certain communities is still pretty low and the number of comments even on popular threads...

drascus,

I just deleted my account I found that many of the tools to shred my data just didn't work or maybe they do work and I just did it wrong? But in any case for me I just wanted out so I deleted my account.

drascus,

It's likely all this will change as the user base grows. However there are some distinct advantages.

  1. Having instances focused purely on certain topics or ethics makes it so you can join the communities that align with your ideas. while all these communities federate having a home base that aligns with your ethics is important. Also if any particular instance becomes overly trollish there is the option that your instance can defederate from them. While this is not ideal having smaller instances with a more homogeneous community means that it will be easier to lobby for things like that than a monolithic service.
  2. people at the moment are focused on building something that is community oriented and that people will want to use. Right now we have mods, power users, tech enthusiasts, and community leaders mostly. We don't have a ton of trolls yet. This will change but I think we can adapt to it.
  3. There is a sense of comradery. People are dusting themselves off after the collapse of a former community of bolstering each other. This will wear off. however hopefully by then the service is robust enough that people will have found their new communities and groups that they jive with.
drascus,

it's a twitter clone that some people in the tech community are excited about for reasons I cannot understand.

drascus,

Yes lets put the ultra rich in the Colosseum and have them fight for our entertainment.

Why don't we use PeerTube to host the videos for Lemmy/kbin?

Would sound stupid as I don't indepth of PeerTube yet but I have heard that PeerTube is federated video sharing platform. I also heard it can't hold much a load which makes sense as HD videos takes lots of load. That begs me the question why don't we use it for small/short videos(not those vertical videos) to build communities...

drascus,

this is a great idea. They could code it that if someone does post a youtube link that it just fetches the peertube equivalent or gives the person the option of what platform they prefer to watch videos on in their settings.

difficulty signing up for lemmy in firefox

I don't know if other people have had this experience. When I try to sign up for a lemmy server in firefox it just hangs indefinitely. I've had to use alternative browsers to sign up for accounts. I hope this is something that will be fixed. Lemmy and firefox should be natural allies....

First Impressions of the FINAL LIBREM 5 HARDWARE (odysee.com)

Checkout @TheLinuxGamer’s impressions (far from an extensive review however) on the “final” hardware of the Librem 5 - it’s nice to have a video instead of a Purism forum post to read. Unsure if this is his own unit due from backing or if Purism sent him the device (he mentions it’s a review device im the video so I...

drascus,

This is seriously not me being a jerk. I have been following this project for years. At this point can you actually just buy a phone from them or do you buy one and get stuck on some wait list for an unknown period of time? From the video shared a few things are sort of shocking out of the box for a consumer release. first of all no account creation on login or at a minimum a prompt to change your password on login seems not great. Sure you can just change your password but having 1-6 be the default password that doesn’t get updated on login is so easy to fix I am surprised it’s still like this. Next that keyboard is definitely overly cramped and seems very difficult to use. To me that is a bit of a deal breaker for a phone now a days because typing is so essential. 1300 for a phone that is essentially beta and a project phone still seems unobtainable for most people. Again I don’t want to hate on this as I really want it to work but there is so much working against it at the moment in my estimation.
