indie gamedev is spending 3-5 years working on a game with probably at least a couple other people and then you release it and if youre fairly lucky you gross like 20-80 thousand US dollars which works out to $5000 a person a year before tax. it's a very cool and sustainable industry

@psychicparrot42 @eniko I don't know if it's the system that is messed up, or just the fact that we're making completely un-necessary-to-sustain-life/artistic type of entertainment products in an oversaturated market, but we're still believing in it as if the gold rush had just started...? 😅

I'll continue making stuff and be stupidly naive about it and hope for the best, and it does hurt to not being able to do what you want to do and get some sort of recognition for it, buuut... yeah 😅

Y a-t-il une différence entre se croire trop bon pour essayer de se faire éditer, et tout donner pendant 15 ans pour y arriver et conclure que ça vaut pas vraiment le coup et qu’on vaut mieux que ça ? J’espère que oui

@leonardbertos @s_arnier Je crois qu'il y a une discussion qui peut être importante pour certains là dedans: comment conserver son courage tout du long.
Certains ont besoin de retours positif, feedback, éloges, fierté, tout ça... Et quand tu as pas ça, comment arriver à ne pas baisser les bras?
C'est clairement pas facile, certains y arrivent mieux que d'autres, mais c'est difficile de se défaire de ce genre de besoins ancrés dans notre core en tant qu'humain.

@leonardbertos Ouais mais bon, talent, succès et humilité ont pas vraiment une relation à égalité, tu trouveras toujours des gens qui ont exactement les même ratio que toi et qui ont un trajet (= succès ?) complètement différent, et vice-versa...

C'est cliché le "faut pas se comparer aux autres", et c'est plus facile à dire qu'à faire de nos jours, mais bon c'est quand même pas une bête idée, sinon on arrête jamais de se poser des questions de merde 😄

Aw I just read an article about marketing and now I have to go flush my head down the bog for cleaning. "Just ask Steam for discoverability" is the worst advice. ".. and they'll give it to you, if they like your game" .. just how fucking naïve?! Steam don't give a shit about your game! "The key to success on Steam, he explained, is getting yourself in the Top Upcoming list." No shit, Captain Obvious! "This requires about 1000 wishlists a day" But how do I? Yeah, I thought so.

Même si je sais qu'écrire me fait du bien, et qu'en forçant un peu je peux faire exploser le compteur de signes, essayer de reprendre une attitude d'amateur vis à vis de l'écriture pourrait me permettre de lire et jouer davantage en écrivant moins. Au lieu de m'autoculpabiliser

@djlink I've been eyeing more and more Linux lately, especially after some of my colleagues telling me about the possibility of running a virtual windows directly through linux, no need to reboot, can use your GPU power, and you can install everything that normally runs on a windows machine...
I honestly feel like it's the same as with my current phone: when it dies, I'll look over fairphone.
When my laptop dies, I might go linux + virtual windows 😅

I’d heard a couple of people say that Xbox was basically not worth aiming for anymore as an indie, unless they offer you a chunky Game Pass deal - which they probably won’t, unless you’re a known quantity by reputation or sales on other platform. @sinbad @glassbottommeg It's interesting how there has been a wave of "let's help indies get onto our platform" from both Sony and Xbox, but it has shifted back to ignoring these, or not being worth aiming at for smaller studios (or just straight up being too convoluted and stupid, with Game pass)

Maybe they realized it's not worth it financially (since that's the only metric that's used nowadays 🙄) to try to bring indie games into platforms that are mostly populated by super mainstream gamers.

My latest "real world pixel art" creation using a reclaimed painting, a Stardew Valley themed village scene 😊

I had been looking for a painting like this for a while, so when I saw this one I couldn't resist! I think Stardew Valley is the perfect theme for it!
It's pretty big, I have no idea if I can even keep it, my walls are filled already 😅
