Apparently someone is threatening to have the instance I’m on defederated if they don’t get rid of me, because I posted that the Mastodon DM system is dangerously broken and non-intuitive.

My dad was in an Orchestra Musician's Union almost his whole life, so I saw growing up first hand the kind of protections a union offered. I'd love to be able to join a union too, but alas I'm a simple cartoonist.

Nonetheless, I stand in solidarity with the WGA.

    Rose Schneiderman was a Polish-born American socialist and feminist, and one of the most prominent female labor union leaders. Rose was one of the earliest to use the image of "Bread and Roses" to indicate a worker's right to something higher than subsistence living.

    The Yiddish/Jewish roots of the 20th c. American Labor movement often go obscured in place of the generic phrase "immigrants." This should be learned by all who study this time in American history.

    This is a prototype for a window sign and sticker.

    I'm aware acts of performative allyship are fraught. But I and many others will attest that when we see signs like this in otherwise hostile places, it makes us feel a bit less alone.

    I use active language as opposed to more tepid words like "support." what is needed right now are people who will take direct action. it's not enough to say "love is love," there are systemic issues that need addressing by name.

    I'll never get over that people say that Mastodon "takes effort to use." :crazy: I can understand being confused and turned off by it, but, god damn it wasn't THAT hard to figure out.

    @msprout honestly Twitter had a learning curve for me and I was as early an adopter of the internet as I was capable of being in the late 90s

    @msprout I think Discord has largely supplanted IRC. I use it for pretty much the same purposes (specific fandom, file swapping, personal communication with other likeminded folks)

    For all the people saying 'Why are you still on twitter" I have two responses:

    🔹 Before you ask someone that, you might want to look to see what the person is doing on Twitter.

    I am telling people why they should leave and posting links to Mastodon and my blog. I have long-time readers who are still there.

    🔹 I see people here accusing others of of being a "nazi supporter" or lacking morals because they have a Twitter account. That is the behavior of a jerk and doesn't make Mastodon look good.
