Tabletop roleplaying games enthusiast since the 80's. Game of choice: GURPS 2E or Pathfinder 2E, but I prefer the OSR style of play. I tend to only follow people who talk about TTRPG stuff in English.

Whenever I hunt for a error in my compilation, it's usually something really stupid.

@juergen_hubert That's a lot of words!

@enfors@ttrpg-hangout.social avatar

@juergen_hubert That's still a lot though... 😅

I have started to draw a city map for my G - by hand (on a tablet). Just the black and white version will take at least 50 hours. Starting to think I went overboard when I decided on the 4000x3000 resolution... 😅 Well, at least I'm enjoying the process.

@juergen_hubert Oh, vector graphics? That's interesting. Then you could conceivably zoom in enough on part of a city map to use it as the base for making a battle map. That's an interesting thought.

@juergen_hubert Right, yeah, that makes more sense than what I'm doing. 😅 I'm drawing hundreds of very simple little houses individually, like in this video (except without talent): https://youtu.be/63DZ7nLpSDE?si=mmfPimTV76KXKRYJ

@SJohnRoss @juergen_hubert Yeah, that makes sense. I'll look into that next time.

@Tim_Eagon @Enfors @HexedPress Well, yes and no I think? I've also seen discussions - where there was no downvote button - deteriorate because people posted stupid nonsense that couldn't be downvoted. So this is not an easy problem to solve, without resorting to forcing people to go through a mini-tutorial on how to use the downvote button before they're allowed to. And even then, people would still misuse it.

@Tim_Eagon @Enfors @HexedPress As someone with a 13+ year history and 60k+ comment karma on the damn site, I agree!

During this time of , I've created an additional instance, this time about - a type of travel mechanic sometimes used in , especially games like old versions of , and retroclones like .

The community is available at https://lemm.ee/c/hexcrawl.

I've created a community over on the instance https://lemm.ee. Lemmy is a lookalike for the Fediverse. The community is available at https://lemm.ee/c/solorpg (the recommended way of accessing it), but it can also be followed from any Fediverse account by following @solorpg.

@plugd Yeah, let's hope so!

@enfors@ttrpg-hangout.social avatar

@hexedpress Hey. I created a solorpg community on lemm.ee, but I'm having trouble uploading a banner for it. Mine is the same dimensions (1200x514) and same format (.webp) as yours on @osr, but still I get a JSON error message when I try to upload it. Do you remember if you had to do some special trickery to get it to work?

Today's : How do you make your world feel alive?

When I play or , I want the world to feel alive - not as a static movie set in which you have your adventures. Even though my PC may be a hero to some extent, I still want to feel like I'm just one of many adventurers / citizens in this world. But how do you, as a GM, achieve that?

How does one make the world feel alive and dynamic? What are your best tips related to this?

@bedirthan Interesting. Why are cultures better than languages in this regard?

enfors,
@enfors@ttrpg-hangout.social avatar

@bedirthan That's a very interesting blog post, thanks for linking it. I think you're right. For the TTRPG I'm developing, I'll have characters knowing cultures (as skills) rather than languages, as you suggest.

enfors,
@enfors@ttrpg-hangout.social avatar

@RogerBW Yes, I agree. This is something I've tried to accomplish in the past, but I need to become a lot better at it.

(Also, there's a friggin Emacs instance now? Why didn't anyone tell me!)
