turns on TV upon getting home Taiwanese soap opera is on
*random character thinking (English subtitles): “This AI company is just a shell company…”
EVEN THE TAIWANESE SOAP OPERAS KNOW THIS AI HYPE IS JUST EMPTY HYPE LMAO
Then again given that Taiwan is where Big Tech gets all their Super Hyper Advanced Computer Processing Chips™️ from I shouldn’t be surprised that the soap opera writers in that country knowing about this lol
Keep subsidising fossil fuels. Keep supporting Big Oil. Keep ignoring climate change. In a few short years this heatwave will seem like winter compared to what’s to come should you all continue on this path to doom.
@elonjet To the UFO mothership that showed up over Alaska way back in 1986, this is your call to return to the same place on Earth and mess with this plane. This time, more directly.

@diamond I personally believed technology was going to help us as recently as around the early/mid-2010’s. But once I saw what Big Tech - especially Facebook and Google - were willing to do for the sake of profit, as well as all those useless high-tech contraptions and technology that techbros keep pushing out on us, it made me question as to how “high-technology” was actually going to be useful for the masses like myself.
@diamond The crypto-bubble of the early 2020’s, the NFT garbage, and now the AI hype bubble that literally every Big Tech company and their dog is pushing on us without appropriating considering all the harms it is causing, all of it has really shifted me firmly into the doubter-of-technology camp, a Neo-Luddite of sorts if you will. I still believe technology can be useful, but I am now much, much more critical of what gets pushed out into the tech space nowadays.
@diamond I’m also now pretty much anti-Big Tech, and I support any and all moves to either break up Big Tech companies or to force them to open themselves up to competition. I sincerely hope that all those EU open-market rules can be applied globally as soon as possible, and I sincerely wish to see a viable alternative to Google Search as well.
And stop pushing AI into everything, for fuck’s sake.
@diamond What gets me excited in the tech space nowadays is what I would call “open technology”: the Matter/Thread smart home protocols, ActivityPub and the up-and-coming AT Protocol by Bluesky, etc. All of these are promising to democratise the technology the people use, which too often previously has been concentrated in the hands of too few Big Tech companies.
This should be the way forward for technology. Instead Big Tech and techbros want to force authoritarianism on us.
@diamond Heck even before this AI garbage started spreading everywhere search results have been getting less and less useful, thanks to all those SEO-hijacked slop that are written with no actual knowledge of the subject in question. Just try looking for tech troubleshooting articles and all you get are sloppily-written articles listing completely useless troubleshooting steps that might not even apply to the matter at hand.
