I just watched the first episode of the new Futurama season and the running gag was their attempt to make fun of the Hulu streaming network (Fulu)… in the year 3023. Not only that, but they also parody Black Mirror which itself parodies Netfix (Streamberry) in their latest season....
Literally hell on Earth. I had to drive through Pennsylvania a few times in my life, specifically that part where the interstate stops being an interstate for like 3 blocks.
I’m not making this up. The interstate stops being an interstate, forces you to go through this town built for and around everyone being forced to stop there, then you get back on the next interstate.
But all along the way, for my entire life it has been under construction. Iirc, it goes down to one lane, and it takes like an hour to get through it.
Honorable mentions: I-4 in Orlando, and 66 West in Northern Virginia, fucking awful, they will always be under construction.
I felt like every time it was picking up steam it would just stop being fun. It had no self-awareness.
It seemed like it could’ve been a great 90 minute movie, but no one would’ve believed a Nolan movie could’ve been good under 3 hours, so they just jammed in all this boring dialogue that went nowhere.
It was a good role for Matt Damon though. He can’t carry a movie, but goddamn he does great cameos.
I love this episode until the musical bits start. I hate the Dee song, which is weird because she’s usually my fav. And the thing with the boy at the end is just so cringe. But Frank is amazing throughout. I wish someone would make a fan-edit with just Frank in that episode.
I use a bar of soap that is exclusive to me. I lather somewhere hairy, like my stomach, to build up some suds. Then, I soap everything with the suds and soap.
It wastes a ton of soap compared to a washcloth. And when I’m done I wash the bar off and wash my hands one last time. It’s the quickest way I have found to shower. I am usually out in about 15 minutes.
Yeah, all these sources pushing communism aren’t telling them how the Bolsheviks killed everybody that knew how to do anything: farmers, lawyers, doctors because they were deemed part of the problem, probably because they were the only ones saying “this is a bad idea.”
Then the soviets were back in the dark ages, and only got up to speed because of Germany fucking with them in WW2, and not accounting for the winter. So they were saved by the winter, and Stalin, under threat, threw everyone into the machine.
Millions of the workers were being killed - overworked to death - to get the Soviet war machine up to snuff in factories producing ammo, weapons, planes, whatever. No food, no water, just munitions to fight Germany, then to build bomb, then space flight, the. Collapse.
But, to be fair, all that stuff crippled the US too. In 1970, when everything started going tits up, that’s when it caught up with us, and we’re still paying the bill with ious to the Chinese. When those loans come to call, there will probably be another revolution, or at least war because some asshole is going to say “Look what China is doing to us.”
I wrote a few simple web apps to speed up production in a few departments at work, and I am loving coding with just Vanilla JS, after years of using React, TS, Vue2, Angular, etc....
I know you can play the game at chrome://dino, but it doesn’t evoke the same nostalgic feeling of a 10yr old me turning on aeroplane mode and spamming space bar to try and beat my brother’s high score. Good memories.
I’m not sure why there’s so much love for FF here. It sucks for web development - or rather there are some very important features that Firefox doesn’t have that Chrome does have.
So when you’re writing JavaScript, as I’m sure you know, it’s bad form to add prototypes to primitives.
So let’s say you have an Object, and it holds data about a person: hair color, eyes, weight, height, etc.
But if you want to make that object do something, like calculate the bmi, what do you do?
You could just go ahead and add “.calculateBmi” to Object, but that’s bad form, right?
So you create a Person object, and it has weight, height and all the other stuff, then you can also assign it methods, like .calculateBmi, and that’s great.
Well, in Chrome when you console.log the Person object, it’s says “Person” and it lets you open it right up and look around to see what the height and weight are, and it’s great.
However, In FF, it just says “Object.” And you have to open it, then open a few other things underneath it to find out what type of object it is, and it’s members and methods.
And its takes way longer to debug. And there’s a few other, little things like that, that I can’t think of. I’d love to use FF, but it’s just not there yet.
I’m running Docker in Windows and have a mounted drive. I code in VSC using that mounted folder / volume, and the page shows up on localhost. Just a few simple apps to convert fixed width to csv’s and back and gives analytics on the data using jStat and tables with dataTables. Nothing fancy, but I like it.
I don’t know, I know it works in a lot of places automatically, but I’m not sure how it works. Maybe if the thumbnail has some sort of pointer to the real image?

I think the “real” programmers are scared because you can now do basically anything in js/ts, and they’re going to have to learn something they’ve always looked down on.
With web assembly coming fast a lot of these people are going to start realizing it would be nice to have a cheaper, js-only developer on hand. Then mgmt is going to realize they can have more developers that aren’t total pains in the ass. And so long “real” programmers.
Then, some day, I think js will be the only language - or something like js.
Mine is jabroni. It gets used to describe jabronis, obviously. But it also gets used in the car to describe bad drivers, so I don’t have to swear in front of my kid. But now my six year old will just say “dad there’s so many jabronis out here” and I feel warm and complete inside.
The state of the internet 2023
Why are so many TV shows trying to be "meta" these days? I think it's lazy writing.
I just watched the first episode of the new Futurama season and the running gag was their attempt to make fun of the Hulu streaming network (Fulu)… in the year 3023. Not only that, but they also parody Black Mirror which itself parodies Netfix (Streamberry) in their latest season....

Vanilla JS Coders, what are some killer tools you use?
