I’m well aware that I can rip most Blu-rays with MakeMKV and then convert to mp4 with Handbrake; however, the former just rips everything raw from the disk so the file size is humongous and the conversion via Handbrake for just a single file is terribly long and puts a lot of strain on my computer....
Reencoding video will always put a lot of strain on your computer, regardless if it’s Handbrake or some other tool doing the conversion. With that said, it also depends a lot on the settings you use to transcode.
Can you share what video settings you tried in Handbrake?
As the title reads, I really want to begin hosting my own email server again. I’m sick of the poor quality of the service providers out there. Damnit all I want/need is a reliable IMAP/SMTP provider. I spent 3 hours getting off of Hostinger and on to Zoho. I just hope Zoho won’t suck. It’s great for now but we’ll see....
You can get a mailprovider that allows custom domain names for very little money. I use Mailbox.org and it works fine. Also used Protonmail previously which also works.
So $ sudo in general any time I need to run something as root?
I’ll have to think about that some more. I think I rather dislike “forcing” sudo on all commands as root.
I typed the post in a minute and published, so it definitely isn’t the most coherent or well thought out post.
I’m currently using # for commands executed by the root user or sudo.
Currently, I only use sudo if the command depends on one of its features. Like the example above where I execute a command as the www-data user.
My dilemma was whether to use $ sudo or # sudo for those few cases. But based on yours and other comments, it might make sense to use $ sudo for commands executed as root as well.
Yeah, being consistent is definitely important. I can avoid sudo in many cases, but there are other pages where half the commands need to be executed as some user.
My Nextcloud page has that problem where php scripts need to be executed by the right user. But it also contains the installation instructions and there I can avoid using sudo. It’s like a 50/50 split between using # and sudo -u on that page :/
I’ve got Jellyfin up and running right now on a DS620Slim NAS and it’s running pretty good so far. I’ve seen a lot of people say they prefer Plex over Jellyfin. What are the main advantages to plex?
You’d only get ads while the secondary server is active plus the expiry. Not a problem while the pihole is online.
DNS clients only try the secondary resolver if the primary one times out or returns SERVFAIL. If it returns NXDOMAIN or incorrect records there’s no communication with the second DNS server.
So I just updated Liftoff manually by downloading the APK from GitHub, however I feel like doing so isn’t the best way to keep the app updated outside of installing the app from the Play Store. There was some drama with the main Forgejo developer that caused a bunch of drama and prompted him to “reboot” the community. I found it on HN a while back, but the drama itself happened in issues and discussions under the Forgejo project.
All the legit reasons mentioned in the blog post seem to apply to badly behaved client software. Using a good and stable server OS avoids most of the negatives.
Unattended Upgrades on Debian for example will by default only apply security updates. I see no reason why this would harm stability more than running a potentially unpatched system.
Did anyone get AV1 codec to work via Jellyfin? I can play the file over a USB stick connected directly to the Roku, but just getting audio only when playing via Jellyfin.
I couldn’t really find anything on the web that would explain the remuxing :/
Have you tried asking on the Jellyfin forums? The devs probably hang out there and could help further.
