I got banned for calling a mod George Santos because he lies about everything. I don’t care about the ban but the reason this jackass listed was homophobia. Admins don’t care about it. The public modlog is RIPE for abuse.
My point was only that mods can list any reason publicly. If you spam and get banned, they can list the reason as spam or as anything they want such as dropping n bombs, racism, revenge porn, etc. I really don’t understand how no one else can see how abusive this feature is. Maybe I’m wrong and I would love for someone to prove me wrong.
Elsewhere along the Line, workers are currently digging an enormous 450 acre pit that’s 50 feet below sea level for the construction of a marina. In a comical turn of events, according to the WSJ, the veritable mountain of all the dirt they excavated was dumped right on top of where a waterway is supposed to be built. Work followed to painstakingly re-excavate the huge dirt pile and move it somewhere else — a literal example of the project designers digging themselves into a hole.

I wish Lemmy had more tools in place to prevent mod abuse. Did you know that moderators can list on the public mod log ANY reason they want, whether true or not? Just so no one gets confused, I understand you can be banned for any reason from a community. I’m referring to the listed reason that is public.

I’m just saying in general, modlog is ripe for targeted abuse at someone. For example, what if the mod banned this user and instead of the listed reason being ‘spam’, it was listed as ‘spamming n word’. Now the user’s account has a public action on it indicating racism.
