Masties help me out: is there a way in Ivory or any other app for me to search my own past toots? I opted into the search thing.

You guys. I just made a playlist that is 69 songs and 4hrs 20 minutes. It wasn’t even intentional. But this feels right. It feels good.

Big shout-out to @henrytcasey for getting me the Lost in Translation vinyl. I’m very scared at what Seattle stores will be like today with Pearl Jam so I’m extremely grateful.

If you want to feel old and awful, Columbine happened 25 years ago today. The amazing Dave Cullen, who wrote one of the best Columbine books (Jeff Kass wrote the other one) wrote this for The Atlantic. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/04/columbine-school-shooting-mythology/678119/

@clutem honestly his book is great but so is the lesser-known book by Jeff Kass. Both worked at Colorado newspapers and extensively interviewed the community. Both worth reading. Cullen’s has been the big hit because it came out first but Kass’s book is equally excellent.

Apparently Apple Music for Mac has rabid fanbois (they are all men. All of them) and they are on Threads?! Of all the truly shitty products to stan, you want to defend Apple Music on the Mac?! I’ll defend Apple Music on iOS, even tho sync is a shit show, but on the desktop?! Man normies are weird.

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig same. It’s why I pay for Spotify b/c time is too short to fuck around with Apple Music for Mac

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@joshrivers sadly no. At first I was hopeful the redesigned Apple Music app for windows would be because they stripped all the iTunes stuff out of it but no

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@stroughtonsmith I feel this so hard. Like you I’ve got over 20 years of this shit and I’m prob just going to go PlexAMP or Roon.

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@waltman right that is nice but if you’ve got a really large library, they don’t always work particularly well.

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@so I’m convinced these are people that have never used a good desktop music client and are convinced this is as good as it gets.

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@tjdraper agreed. There is an app called Swinsian (it’s a one-time purchase and v3 has been in development for a while, you get it by downloading the beta from inside the app on their website by holding option when you check for updates) that is essentially better version of old school iTunes. It’ll even import your iTunes or AM library and supports FLAC.

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@jamie_blumberg totally. And that’s why I’m forced to use it on desktop. Because I need to update metadata or want to upload something to my library.

Nicolas was 6 hours early in his question. The answer was "absolutely not" as it took 15 minutes for the 2am double album to show up on the service https://tacobelllabs.net/@ultranurd/112294901851224597

The Framework 13 would be my favorite laptop if the battery life was not butt.

@Eggfreckles Yeah, I'm considering the AMD model. I just wish the screen was a little higher-res. But my 2021 model was a fantastic laptop (currently looking at Windows replacements)

@Eggfreckles yeah mine dual boots too. By Windows I guess I meant x86.

Spot on. And I'll add: It’s also a dev kit positioned as a consumer product, priced as an enterprise/industrial tool but without any of the features that enterprise/industry can use. The whole thing remains a mess and no amount of “whataboutism” or iPhone comparisons, as if we aren't living in a different time, will change the fact that this thing is DOA in its current form and positioning.

You can overcome that: Apple Watch did. But this isn’t anything like iPhone.

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber @philbee @matt @marcoarment I’m not calling it a dev kit as a pejorative, I’m calling it a dev kit because as a fully realized general computing device, it is currently a dev kit. If it was positioned as a high-end solo video device, that would at least be an accurate way to position it, but it isn’t being positioned that way. For some high-end solo movie watchers, it's def worth the price, but this is also where content ecosystems become problematic (specifically talking 3D content)

marcoarment, to random
@marcoarment@mastodon.social avatar

It's absolutely possible. But millions of people had strong reasons to use iPhones even before there were any apps, and then also before the apps were plentiful or compelling.

The customers were already there.

The challenge Apple faces with AVP is getting enough people to buy (and keep using) a device type that they weren't already buying (headsets), which is VERY expensive and limited, to accumulate enough customers for the content and software ecosystem to develop.

film_girl,
@film_girl@mastodon.social avatar

@stooovie @brianhough the primary thing I would use it for would be as a home theater device. That experience is phenomenal, especially with 3D content. But that isn’t how it has been positioned. If it were sold as a home theater accessory for rich people, that would at least be honest. Instead, we’re all searching for something more to do with it.
